Default Rack and Pinion Leaking

Hi,

While I was under my 2006 Cayenne S I noticed some fluid on the right front. The dealer looked at it and says that it's the Rack and Pinion. I haven't noticed any performance lose with the steering so far. I think the leaking has been going on for a while. Can I just keep driving it this way? What would be the harm if any?

The cost from the dealer is +$3000 for a new one. I've see some rebuilt ones advertised, has anyone had any luck with them?

Thank you for any input!

My 2003 BMW has a slow leak, originally identified in 2010, and I've decided to try ATP AT-205 leak stop. It conditions the seals. I added last September and frequently monitor my fluid level. I believe it has slowed the leak but too early to declare mission accomplished. I had good luck with a rebuilt rack for my 99 323ic. You may just want to drain the steering boots and monitor the leak or at least wait until you need an alignment. Carry some extra fluid if it suddenly leaks faster.
