I'm not sure how secure the A-pillar would be as a mount. There's an airbag behind there. When I was running a dashcam power line down the passenger A-pillar I noted the cover really isn't held down by all that much. You definitely would not be able to screw anything into the A-pillar cover and expect it to stay in place.

That and using the phone any higher in location might compromise how effectively the airbag might deploy. Although in 25+ years of driving I've yet to have airbag deploy, even up to 35mph frontal collisions. But I'd want to keep the mount low enough to avoid having an expanding bag throw it in my face, a la Takata problems.

Found a picture online, and one of the Panamera that might better illustrate the A-pillar bag:

Of course airbag has to be taken in consideration. But they are usually located in the upper half. So something hugging around lower part of a-pillar might work. Held by friction only (+ door seal rubber). If I only had a car to work with...

The downside is by point you move it low enough to avoid impinging on the airbag (if that's even possible) you'd end up being too far away. Then some sort of extension has to come out from the mount, increasing the likelihood of wobble. And also requiring more than just a loose friction attachment.

Pro-clip did something sort of like that for the 2013 Nissan:

But the angle and reach from the A-pillar to useful position would be problematic.

I despise using suction cups and the like. But they'll have to suffice for now until something better gets created.

The second is that same mount but attached to long, flexible mount, also via suction cup. It also includes a little stand to help brace it. This I saw in a fellow PCA member's Cayman. The ball on the end of the mount is a standard 17mm Garmin-style. The iOttie fits on it quite nicely.

Ignore the USB cable snaking along the dash under the gauges. I plan on getting power from the left fuse panel once I finalize the mount's position.

I'd rather have some kind of bracket that's more securely attached to the dash instead of a suction mount. Pro-Clip and other have made various solutions like that for other cars, but nothing other than the console position for the Cayenne. I'm of the opinion there's enough gap in the binnacle seam to allow for a bracket to tuck in there. The question is what to do on the outside edge. The air vent has a seam but it seems too tight to wedge something in there.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.
I also have my iottie in the same location. I just wished iottie had quick charge.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking (only withough sharp angles). Well if it doesn't work it doesn't work. What about vent and guages hood? Can you those be disassembled?

As I mentioned in a PM, I've got guests coming tomorrow for Thanksgiving, so I'm up to my *** in alligators trying to get everything in order. I won't likely have a chance to fiddle around with the vents until at least Sunday.

Default No luck with 2017 PCM

I have tried it. If you've got a PCM that has a bezel around the screen then this would be a nice mount. It's well made and includes a standard 17mm ball. So my iOttie wireless cradle fit on it perfectly.

Unfortunately, my 2017 PCM doesn't have a bezel. The screen extends under the vent. There's no room for a bracket to slip out between the screen and the vent.

Wonder what the side vent removed looks like

I find it does at least keep the phone charged when the phone is being used for Waze & Maps. It stays ahead of the battery being consumed. That is, I never have an issue with the phone going dead because of use while in the cradle.

But I do keep a 12v adapter with a quick charge capable USB cable on-board. It's been a rare occurrence to need it though.

If iOttie or someone else came out with one that did fast wireless charging I'd certainly consider it.
