Got the dreaded blinking CEL on my '04 Cayenne S the other day.

Got the following codes:

P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P2174 Please Refer To Vehicle Service Manual
P0513 Incorrect Immobilizer Key (being sorted out)
P0307 Cylinder 7 Misfire Detected

Previous owner, or maybe owners, had not been doing a good job taking care of this car. I've had it for about 2 months now and it feels like a new car.

Changed the coils, no change.... not good. Changed the plugs... made all the difference. Included is a shot of the plug from Cyl. #7



What can be done about P2174 ?

I do not know anything about the Cayenne, but that plug looks horrible. It appears to have dual grounding electrodes and they and one is pretty much gone. Heavy oil contamination.

You have physical damage to the plug suggesting either massive detonation or a foreign object in the cylinder and with that amount of oil contamination you may have a failed piston.

I would suggest a compression check before going any further and inspecting the cylinders for foreign objects with a bore-scope.

The plugs I pulled are BOSCH Super R5 FGR6KQE
