2012 Cayenne rpm surging on idle w/CEL
Dear enthusiasts,
I am brand new to the forum. Yesterday, after filling up the tank at Speedway (87 octane rating), I got a CEL later in the evening. When I got home, the and put the car in park, it started self revving/pulsing and it goes between 1000 to about 1500 rpms. Time interval between pulse is about 3-4 seconds.
Brought it to the dealer - they cleared the CEL and said it was a "glitch". And also went on to say that the CEL was causing some "confusion" in the cars computer system which caused the pulsing.
Not true - after they brought out the car for me to leave, it started pulsing again. Turned off and restarted the engine - voila - CEL lit right back up. Anyways, the service tech said no issues with driving it till my appointment date on 9/21 which is exactly one week.
With that, please help and thanks in advance.
Best,
Les Grossman

2009 Cayenne Idle Surge
Dear enthusiasts,
I am also brand new to the forum.I filled up my 2009 Cayenne V6 with 92oct, I got a CEL 20min later, I checked the gas cap it is tight. When I stop at a red light it is revving/pulsing and it goes between 800 to about 1200 rpms. When I put the car in park, it started self revving/pulsing and it goes between 1000 to about 1500 rpms. Time interval between pulse is about 1-2 seconds. The next day started the car it runs perfect for 3-4 minutes but once it warms up the revving/pulsing starts again.
Brought it to the dealer - they cleared the CEL and said it was an Air Mass Sensor $858, after they brought out the car for me to leave, it started pulsing again. Now they say it is the Plugs $427. and Air-oil seperator in the intake $1,500 repair.
any thoughs, please help and thanks in advance.

Exact first question that popped into my head!?!? I don't know of any vehicle in the "luxury" or "performance" category that takes anything less than 91 octane. Pretty sure the Cayenne manual will indicate 91+ for best performance.

Hi Les,
Have you resolved the issue? My 70k mi 2013 Cayenne just started showing the same symptons. I got the CEL. The idle moves between 800 to 1500rpm when stopped. It drives fine but there is this new whining sound when foot is off the gas. Any advice?

exactly. For best performance.
The manual explicitly states that you can use lower octane with no negative effects also. I've run 87 octane for as long as i've owned the car and have seen no ill effect whatsoever.
What OP is listing is not the result of just using lower octane fuel. OP - You need to read the error codes. Get yourself something like an ICARSOFT POR 2 and scan for error codes.
