It's a piece of pipe. No offense to Fabspeed but it's simply not worth the extra money compared to the HHR pipes.

I live ten minutes from HHR, they make a quality product and stand behind it.

I've been struggling to justify this investment, fearing that I won't notice a satisfactory difference.

It's a shame there are no proper videos before/after installing the bypass. A simple 'after' video is hard to tell, as sticking up a camera to the Cayennes exhaust and revving even makes the stock sound good.

There's a definite change in exhaust note. However, inside the truck, even with the windows down, you can't really hear it. When you stomp on it, its louder inside the truck, other than that, not so much.

Now outside the truck, its louder for sure, nice little rumble at idle too.

Honestly I can't tell any difference in power, the turbos may spool a bit faster. 17rwhp is hard to notice on a truck already making 521hp. When I asked Hank about any power gain I got the "Well....it does sound better!" So I wouldn't expect to feel any palpable power gain...

I've had HHR's product on my '06 CTT since 2011 and had no issues. While the performance gain/claim can only be verified via a dyno, I am pleased with the slightly louder and deeper sound. I am more pleased, however, with the change in throttle response. Perhaps it is really increased power/torque, but with the secondary cats removed, I have much better throttle response, especially when starting from a stop in 2nd gear.

I ordered a set of Milltek bypass pipes from the UK for my 958. I will have to take them to a muffler shop to have some adapters added to go from the 2.76" Milltek diameter to the stock 958 CTT 2.56" pipes back to the stock exhaust, but for half the cost (including shipping), it seems worth a try for something that is still quite reversible without cutting and welding.

Guys, replace that heavy-***, 37lb suitcase muffler and get Sebring Tuning T304 14" twin cans. I like their sound better than Milltek and Akrapovic:

Pulling mine off my 09 GTS in the next week or so (HHR) - build quality is great, sound just isn't for me - prob have 1k miles on them (if that)...going back to stock.

Dilberto - post a sound clip - I searched and didnt find much, do they sell a bolt on cat back or was yours custom made? Love the exhaust tips.

Unfortunately, the P!G has since been traded-away. I'm planning on doing the same on my 2006 CTT. I will post pics and sound bites for sure.

Wtih a price difference of $200 I'm hard-pressed to understand the need for the additional cash for what are pretty similar flow-through pipes (and the clips I've seen for both seem to add a really nice growl )

I'm a BIG fan of the Fabspeed Sport Headers and 200-cell cats that I installed on my 2010 Carerra 4S Cab, but I'm not planning on any other exhaust mods on my Cayenne S. Any thoughts for a brother looking for best value on an enhanced Cayenne S exhaust note....?
You've had a great experience with us before, and you will again! I appreciate your interested very much, and I would love to keep you with Fabspeed PM heading your way, i'll be sure to get you set up with a forum member discount

Thank you for the kind words! We take great pride in our products, and it is nice to see our efforts haven't gone unnoticed. The few rattling occurrences we had were due to the tight tolerances with fitment over the cross bracing. Slight adjustment and retightening everything eliminated this, but we have also tweaked our fixture slightly for a bit more clearance

Performance gains depend on the model, but we have seen upwards of 10whp on the V8NA cars. Those secondary cats are quite restrictive, ditching them does make a difference in performance. Personally, I believe it can be noticed on the butt dyno and with better throttle response, but it is a heavy SUV. The sound improvement though is a no-brainer haha.

Here are a bunch of videos of our Secondary Catbypass Pipes on the 958 V8NA for you to review and make an educated decision. What year and model Cayenne do you have, and does it have PSE?

Pardon the links, been having some trouble embedding the youtube videos the last few days.

As long as both Fabspeed and HHR both use the same grade of stainless and both do mandrel bending, there shouldn't be much difference. I have the Fabspeeds on my 09 TTS and am a Fabspeed fan as I also have their complete valvetronic exhaust on my 997 (headers, 200 cell x-cats, and mufflers).

The Fabspeeds are great quality - bought mine from a guy in Canada that used them in the winters, and look how well they clean up with a drill and some polish

and here's the setup on my 997

I am installing an HHR intake on my Cayenne though as part of the widebody build project.

I have a Fabspeed exhaust on mine with only a single cat per bank. It still passes emissions in North Carolina but I've been warned that at the dealership they wouldn't be able to pass it because they know it needs to have two of them.

I will tell you the sound from the system is awesome. You can really tell there's a big v8 under the hood but it's not overwhelming when driving in traffic unless you push it.

Not sure if it adds power or not but there are no rattles or droning - I'm very happy with it.

So I was at a high end custom shop here in NY getting the techart paddle shifters installed. I struck up a conversation about the bypass pipes with the owner and he surrised me with his response.

He claimed emphatically (based on experience), if you remove the secondary cats here in NY you are not guaranteed to pass the emissions testing without re-flashing the ECU. He said that NY and California are 2 of the most strickt states for emissions and there's a bunch of miss-information floating around about these bypass pipes and the CTT. In addition, he claimed that multiple delerships have refused to honor warranty work when the pipes are installed.

Obviously, I don't have them installed, but was thinking about it. This response was certainly not what I was expecting so I figured I'd share it with the community.

Beg to differ but I am in NY, have the Fabspeed pipes and just had extensive work done at the dealer under CPO including a new transfer case and rear diff. The Porsche dealer could not have missed the pipes and said not a word. Similarly, I just had the truck inspected and it passed with flying colors...no reflash and no problems.

fpena,

I totally agree with the transformation of the exhaust note on the NA V8 engine .... the stock exhaust is SOOOOOO quiet on the non-PSE 958.1's so the catbypass pipes are a great (and cost-effective) way to really wake up your PiG. Just to close the loop on my earlier post, I ended up installing these on my 2012 Cayenne S and have before and after video clips for anyone considering the same install for a more throaty Cayenne. Sadly, online video clips don't do justice to the actual sound, but hopefully these will give you a rough idea of the improvement.
