Default lower half of side view mirror- matte or shiny?

This has been driving me crazy. The side mirrors on my 04 CTT have two "halves" on the front, and the lower half on one looks different than the other.

On the driver's side, it's matte and looks like the lower half of the rear bumper, for example. Just sort of texturized plastic. Doesn't look bad, it just isn't shiny paint like the rest of the car or the upper half of the mirror.

On the passenger side, both halves are clearcoated and shiny!

I've looked at other cayennes and seen the matte lower halves on both sides.

Someone care to explain?

Passenger side, glossy top and bottom

Driver side. Glossy top, matte bottom. Excuse the dirt and bugs

Sorry about enormous pictures...uploaded directly from phone.

The original spec was a bespoke style with the matt bottom.
If the mirror housing has been replaced at some time, good chance the painters painted it with gloss.

That's what I was afraid of. Carfax had no mention of the mirror being replaced; it works just fine and I can't tell of any damage anywhere, so I'm not worried about it. I'll try and get a matte one off of a wreck...or do nothing.
