Traded my 13 oil burning pepper for a 15 oil burning pepper

One thing that annoyed me on the 13 was the frequent oil changes

I had 30 minutes of waiting in the car yesterday...and started going thru the owners book

In the maintenance schedule it lists oil changes at 10k miles with no mention of a 5 k interval

Did something change?

I have a 2014 Diesel and it recommends 5k oil changes. Interesting question, not that it matters as I change oil in all our cars diesel or gas, at 5k

Wow. That's very interesting. The engine didn't change. And the fuel hasn't changed. I have to believe that's a typo. Please let us know what the dealer says.

The 5k applies to the US (and maybe Canada). The reason? Pretty sure it's due to the poorer fuel quality here along with bio-diesel use (up to B20 in many places). Mercedes won't sell diesels in Illinois because of B20.

That said, I have a Touareg TDI (same engine as the CD), and VW is still at 10k. I have 58k on the clock. No issues. I mostly get straight USLD but sometimes bio. I almost always use a fuel additive (Stanadyne Performance mostly but do use PowerService white bottle for frigid temps).

So, P is just being prudent given our inconsistent fuel quality which can damage the HPFP.

Check the service intervals in your MFD. My 13's book says 10k, but the MFD is on a 5k schedule.

Our dealer said 10-12K is fine for oil changes unless you are in a poor fuel quality area ('15 diesel)

CA has the high quality ultra low sulfur stuff right? I'm doing 5k changes on my 2013... car burned 1/2 qt first 2 changes but hasn't burned a drop since....

My '13 VW diesel is also 10k intervals. Power Service with every fill up.

I would stick to what the MFD says unless your dealer is silly enough to give you that statement in notarized form. If there is any question of warranty coverage PCNA is going to require you prove you followed the schedule for your market which is configured in the MFD.

Also worth looking at are the Blackstone results for a '14 owners first 2 oil changes where he pushed the second off to 8k. It appears to indicate (at least for his situation) that a 10k OCI would not be a good thing.

At 8K his oil was at the end to its useful life and with that oil Porsche is probably right to call it 5K or maybe 7.5K might be better. I personally think from looking at the Blackstone results that you could easily go to 7.5K or probably even longer if you used a better oil than the Mobil1 he was using. Mobil is a fine oil but there are many Botique oils known to be better, just ask Blackstone labs. Porsche is in a marketing agreement with Mobil and it meets a minimum spec But I can't see why you can't go with an oil that exceeds the specs. Monitoring with Blackstone or http://www.spectra-lab.com/. I use Spectra but the one advantage of Blackstone is there database is much larger of past analysis.

The catch with the diesels is that there aren't many options right now that meet the minimum spec. Even what is available is a pain to reliably find outside the dealers (at least in my area).

I use the Castrol version from my local VW dealer as they sell it about $3 cheaper than I've found the M1. I believe there is a Pensoil too, but have yet to be able to confirm it meets the required specs.

My 2015 Cayenne Diesel is on the 5000 mile oil change interval too. The dealer said it was US diesel fuel quality or lack there of. The prepaid maintenance plan also acknowledges the 5000 mile oil change interval.

I asked a Porsche service manager last week and he said the 2015 diesel oil change interval has indeed gone to 10,000. If seems that only the 2014s require the 5,000 mile interval which certainly does not make sense as I know of no differences in the engines. With this anomaly it is high time for some official word from Porsche.
