Thoughts on 955 water pump...OEM with plastic impeller or GEBA w/ metal impeller?
The 'genuine Porsche' water pump appears to have a plastic impeller. I saw one made by GEBA (made in Germany) with a metal impeller.
Is there an advantage to going to a pump with metal impeller?

I vote Geba with the metal impeller. I'm biased though as VAG (VW/Audi) had a lot of failures in the 1.8t cars with plastic impellers years ago. I know the plastics have improved but for most part I'm not a fan. Anyone remember the Cayennes plastic Cooling pipes and Tee's?

The downside to a metal impeller is that it can score the engine block if the bearing in the water pump fails, however, the V8 955s do not use the type of pump where the impeller sits directly in the block, so this is not much of a concern. That said, I've never seen the composite impeller on a 955 fail, although I have seen it happen many times on Audis.

I asked because I think a water pump with plastic impeller is seen as a good thing for my 928 and especially the later 4-cam S's and S4s, since as you stated, if the pump bearing fails the block could sustain damage from a metal impeller.
