Default 2014 v6 or 2015 diesel?

Hi all!
I'm planning on replacing my x5 and considering cayenne. I can't decide if I should buy 2014 leftovers or wait for redesigned 2015s. Local dealer offered 8% off msrp on 2014s(v6). I'm in Atlanta. Not sure if this is good price or not.
If I order 2015, what kind of discount I should be expecting.
Thanks ahead for everyone's input

Test drove every flavor of non-turbo Cayenne when I was looking (ended up with a 911S, so take this advice for what it's worth :-) . Between those two, I would get the diesel. Base Cayenne was kind of blah. Cayenne diesel had nice torque...T

I love my diesel, but if waiting for a 15 is in the cards i'd look at the new S if it were for me.

What the diesel used to have was its torque, but the new turbo motor in the S is putting out more torque and still had a bunch more HP. Being a TT6 its fuel economy should be up over the old NA8 too (but not to diesel levels).

If you can get a good deal on a 14 diesel and don't want to wait, i'd jump on that. Other than a few standard options (PCM and BiXenon) and the new look the diesel didn't change in the power department.

As far as the base, I think the VR6 was a good mate for the Cayenne and its what I had settled on before they released the diesel. For the 13 and 14 MYs I think the diesel is the hands down winner below the GTS, but i'm not as convinced with the 15 numbers that are available so far.

Is it true the diesel has a 5k service interval?

Yes, 5K for oil. I do my own AdBlue, it is easy to do. You will love the diesel. I was not impressed with the V6. Drove a Cayman S the other day and missed the diesel torque.

Oil every 5k, or just first?

Have you driven both. The Diesel is nice compare to the Base engine wise. Not that the base v6 is bad, it no wimp. The new S will be sweet as the whole line has gone to turbo charged. The Diesel already has a markup and for 2015 wow they really jump...guess they are staying clear of Macan.

%8 off is good, I got %7 and was happy, could have got more with the model year ending but I'm not worried over a few hundred bucks. Try both 2014s and see what you think.

Actually it didn't have a significant one. It got new standard options (PCM and BiXenon being the big ones) and if you add them all to the 2014 price there isn't a big change in the price (less than $1k if I remember correctly which is in line with the normal year to year increases).

It does look like it though if you don't know/understand the option changes.

Highly recommend you consider the diesel. The engine is perfect for that vehicle, great torque for zipping around town, and great mpg.

Unfortunately it does require 5k oil changes which is odd, Audi and VWs do not yet they all use the same motor. I take my diesel to the local VW dealer for oil changes at 5k miles, but to the Porsche dealer for annual maintainence, it's 1/2 the price for VW to do an oil change vs the Porsche dealer.

I've been going back and forth between the Cayenne and the Q5. Different size vehicles, I know, but after careful consideration, I think the Q5 is just about big enough for the needs of my wife and I. I have a couple of 911s, so this will be mostly a family vehicle. That said, I would always prefer a driver's vehicle - utility or not.

Today I test drove an SQ5. 2014 model, 5k miles, CPO. Think I can get it for about $57k. I enjoyed the 2014 V6 loaner Cayenne that I had for a couple of days last week. However, as comfy and spacious as it was, it didn't thrill me much from a driving point of view. I know the diesel will have a lot more pull, but I don't think I could get a recent CPO diesel one for anywhere near that price.

I know this isn't an apples to apples comparison and I appreciate all of your feedback on this.

Vivian.

If you're looking at the Q5, then the Macan is what it directly compares to. Definitely no CPO there though and most dealers seem to have a waiting list.

I think any of the Cayennes are sporty and driver oriented if you have the right expectations. If you are trying to compare it to the 911, then even the GTS/TT/TTS fail. If you compare it to it's competitors the drivability comes out in spades.

As far as what you're looking at, I would compare the SQ5 more with the S or possibly GTS for the PTWR. In that light you might find the Cayenne compares a bit more favorably from the driver perspective. Price will be a different story though

For the 2011-2014 options I think the diesel indeed sneaks in and beats out the non "sport" models by the massive amount of torque masking it's lower top end power. It is definitely a fun motor to play with if you aren't pushing the limits of the speedo.

^ Agree with all of that. Have experience of driving my brother's Macan and it's a better drive than the SQ5 IMO, but it's just not quite as practical.

Re Cayenne GTS, that would be ideal, but it's beyond the budget vis a vis having a recent model with CPO etc. Cayenne GTS of equivalent year is probably 25-30k more.

Thanks for everyone's input! I've decided on diesel but with only that discount, is it worth buying 14's or wait until 15's?

There's no technical difference, and it's an absolute SHOCK they didn't upgrade the Diesel to the 300HP version that Panamera cars in Europe received!

I'd say if you can get a better discount on '14, go for it...
