Default Does this quote for major service and brakes on my 08 Cayenne Turbo sound reasonable?

I'm in the SF Bay area (East Bay), and my CPO '08 Cayenne Turbo with 38K miles is due for major service (fluids, spark plugs, air filters, etc. etc.), and also the brake pad light just came on.

I just got the quote from the local Porsche dealer: $2,000 for the major service, and he says pads and rotors are needed front and back, for another $2,065.

Does this sound about right? Or should I try an indie shop, and would that affect the CPO status at all?

Visit an indie. You can probably cut that down by close to 50%. It should not affect your CPO.

Spark plugs at 38k? That doesn't sound right, but I have a Treg. They say 96k kms for reference.

Rotors do not need to be changed if there is no pedal vibration or grooves below minimum thickness. Also unless the pads are down to around 2-3mm of friction material they also don't need to be changed. Unless you do extensive towing or you are suffering from that painful condition of money up the wazoo, likely the pads are fine as well.

The fronts do aprox 70% of the braking. Even if the fronts are worn, the rears should not be. ymmv

Take it to an independent. Keep receipts. I am sure they will ask for them if there is a claim to prove you did the service.

I just had a major service (120,000 miles) done on my Cayenne S at a dealer yesterday and it was ~$1,200.

The price quote for the brakes sounds about right for a dealer. A good independent mechanic can do it for a bit less, but the actual parts needed for brake replacement on a turbo are quite expensive. Does the quote include a brake fluid flush/change?

I just had the same service done on my ‘09 CTTS at the Porsche dealer in Walnut Creek, and I’m sorry I did. Too expensive and they didn’t give me the impression they knew the car as well as a dealer should.

I had recently purchased the car and wanted a “dealer” to do my first service and check everything out. When I picked the car up I asked them how everything looked and they said “fine, it’s really clean inside and out”. I restated my question and clarified that I wanted their assessment mechanically. I got the same basic answer. I then asked them to show me how to use the CD player; so they opened the back hatch pulled the side compartment cover - it wasn’t there. Then the service rep got a technician and they looked under the seats, again in the back, and finally proclaimed I didn’t have one. I showed them the original MSRP that listed one. They both smiled and looked at me like I was an idiot and said you must have been ripped off.

When I got home and read the manual I learned the ‘09 models with CD option had them incorporated within the PCM unit. Shouldn’t they know this? Next time I’ll either take it to Sonnen (they do the same service for about $400 less), or take it to my indie in San Rafael that works on my 928 very knowledgably.

Sounds expensive to me, over here a major service from a good indie/ dealer is $800/ $1000 plus parts and consumables so I'd normally expect it to come in well under $1500. Spark plug replacement on the S dropped from 60k on the 955 to 40k on the 957. Price for a full brake set change sounds about right to me.

Spark plugs on the '08 Turbo are every 24k miles or 4 years. If you've had them done once already, they don't need to be done at this service.

Correct, that will teach me to read the post fully. I assumed it was a non Turbo as the dealer was changing them at 38k (40 ish)
