Default 955/957 Cayenne DIY: Battery Replacement Guide

This was done on my 2005 Cayenne Turbo. I only have a battery under my drivers seat. I think some might of came equipped with a battery in the trunk.

I did't want to pay the dealer $400+ for a OE battery and labor. I was able to get mine from Advance Auto Parts for about $130 after coupon code.. It took me about 30 mins max!

Don't forget the blue loctite on the seat bolts when reassembling.

Yes that's correct. Don't forget the blue loctite and manual calls for 37ft lb torque on seat bracket bolts

Thanks for the writeup! My original battery just took a crap on me. Will be replacing with a Napa Legend battery tomorrow.

Default Replaced '08 CS Batt

put-in a Rayovac SLI49H8M, 900CCA, from Batteries Plus...$135-$10 rebate.
direct repl. 13 5/8L, 6 3/4W, 7 1/2T.
the only POS step is removing the plastic pieces behind the seat, so the seat can tilt.
I pried the center tab out, and then used a carpet bar to pull up & back.
I need to talk to my Porsche Tech for the right procedure.
Happy Holidays!
good thread! thanks!

From what I remember they slide back horizontally. I screwed one up before I realized it.

Nice writeup. I, too, was quoted $400-500 from the local dealer today. To their credit, they suggested a Dynacell replacement because the OEM Moll batteries "just don't last". Still $400 though...

Since I am ~1000 miles away from home (and away from my toolbox), I thought I would be stuck paying the dealer's ransom. Turns out my wife needed to do some last minute shopping today, so I volunteered to take her to the mall. While she shopped around the mall, I chatted up the guys at the Sears automotive desk. They had a proper size battery in stock (lots of Touaregs here in CO) and the service manager used to be a tech at the VW dealer. They looked up the procedure on-line and stated they felt confident they could do it in about an hour, but it would cost me an extra $29.99 for this "special service".

Now, normally, I would never trust a Sears technician to do such a job, but talking to the service manager gave me some confidence that they had seen it before and he promised to put his best tech on the job. I insisted that I be allowed to watch and agreed to let them perform the service.

One hour and $200 later, I have a new battery with a 36 month full replacement warranty. I'm sure the tech did not use loctite when replacing the seat bolts, but what do you want for $29.99

this is exactly the same as the Touareg. I bought my battery from Canadian tire and did the procedure in less than half an hour. cost me 115 plus tax.

so,a secondary source would be a Volkswagen dealer.

You can pick them up at most NAPA, AutoZone, Advance auto parts stores, they won't be the best quality but plenty good enough to get the job done.

Online, ToolTopia.com or Amazon or many, many others.
