Default Heavy Tailgate Advice

Hi all

The tailgate on my 2004 CTT is heavy to lift, once opened it stays open ok but feels very heavy initially. It has the power tailgate option, is that meant to fully open it or just close it once i drop it down again, which it does (like soft close doors)?

Thanks

Carl

The power option only closes it properly once its down on 04's. The telescoping dampers have gone in the rear roof space and need to be replaced or your in DANGER.

Many people have done this, hint buy some 2x4 to hold it open when you do it.

Heavy to lift will eventually lead to heavy to fall

mudman2 is correct and you need to switch out your Hatch Struts. We offer a complete Rear Hatch Strut Kit that includes everything you need to do it yourself.

My 04 CS has droopy door syndrome. The glass is fine (it never gets used). Guess I better look into changing my dampners too.

I see ECS has the parts listed. Any other recommended suppliers?

There are a few other places that have them...

Looks like Pelican has the parts available separately.

Hatch Strut - 95551255006 @ $83.25 each
Glass Strut - 95551252800 @ $13.75 each
Left baffle - 95551258300 @ $11.25
Right baffle - 95551258400 @ $11.25

Total from "the bird" - $216.50

Suncoast has a "kit" that ammounts to nothing more than a pair of hatch shocks. I don't see the glass struts or the baffles listed on their site, but I could just be not seeing it...

In the interest of fairness...

ECS individual pricing -

Hatch Strut - 95551255006 @ $58.03 each
Glass Strut - 95551252800 @ $9.83 each
Left baffle - 95551258300 @ $9.06
Right baffle - 95551258400 @ $9.06

Total from ECS - $153.84, or they have their kit on sale right now for a bit less, if you need all of it.
