Default Wheels Size Comparisons

I have 20" wheels on my 08 "S" and was wondering if a smaller wheel size would give me more tire life? I chiefly travel distances and occasionally tow a car. Boxster-like performance in the twisties is not a primary concern.

Has anyone had experience with different tire sizes who could comment on this? I am assuming similar driving behaviors and other factors remaining constant.

Thanks in advance!

Good question, I have never seen a consensus ... assuming smaller is also narrower:

Myths/truths?
1) Wider tires last longer, as there is more rubber to spread the carrying of the weight.
2) Makes no difference, see how the tread wear rating on a specific tire model does not change with width/diameter.
3) Narrower may last longer, as camber has a less pronounced affect on uneven tread wear.
4) Common knowledge that low profile tires last less long, as they tend to specify a higher performance (softer) rubber compound.

I would side with "makes little difference". For long life chose tire with highest tread wear rating (which is usually inversely proportional to grip). UHP Summer tires will typically not last too long.
