You could make the same comparison of the Corvette vs 996. It's apples and oranges.

except it is an SUV and the only way the porsche beats the MDX is in towing, speed and off roading. 99% of SUVS that are bough are to haul people and things..the MDX has more seating and storage as well as many more options for less. yes if you want 450 HP or even 340 HP its apples and oranges..

It's absolutely apples and oranges. I had a deposit on an MDX before it came out and then turned it down after the test drive. The MDX is absolutely a fantastic SUV on paper and there was actually nothing specific wrong with the test drive. It didn't feel as solid as I had hoped for and it didn't corner very well. I ended up buying an X-5 instead (for a lot more money).

If your just looking at it on paper the MDX will be hard to beat.

Jason,

If you're just looking for an SUV, go with the MDX for sure!! If you're looking for a luxury vehicle with heart and soul and Porsche handling and brakes, go with the Cayenne. There are a LOT better values than any porsche product. But it's just not the same thing.

Hasn’t this same argument been written before? Cayenne vs. X5 4.6, vs. FX 45, vs. Sequoia, vs. Touareg, vs. Audi RS6, and now the MDX.. Heck, I could make a pretty decent debate vs. my wife’s Yukon XL Denali! (Don’t worry, I’m not)

Personally, I have been on a waiting list for the Cayenne for 8 months and have test driven most of the vehicles mentioned above trying to find a reason not to wait for the C. The fact is, they’re all are great SUVs. One can make a good argument for buying all of the above on value and most of the above on styling vs. the Cayenne (Yeah, I’m still trying to warm up to the silver plastic window trim). However, I believe that as more and more Cs are delivered and the driving reviews roll in, we’ll be talking more about apples vs. lima beans, instead of oranges…

What you can't justify others can. Back to the same saying, "different strokes for different folks." Go out and enjoy your cars, they're all great cars. No one plunks down that much dough if they don't think it's worth it (to them). I've already put in 273 miles with smiles on my 24 hour old C and as I look at the other SUV's on the road today there's lots of great values out there but I'm happy with my acquisition and that's all that counts. Glad you're happy with yours as well. Happy driving.

With all the money saved on MDXs, you think some of it might make it into the membership coffers?

SurfCayenne - loved the "apples to lima beans" remark. Our original family hauler was a 2002 Honda Odyssey. We considered the MDX, but thought it was overpriced for what it was: a jacked up Odyssey with a less flexible interior layout. We still have our Odyssey as a beater to take to the beach and such, but the Cayenne is a joy to drive. I'd really love to take it out on the Autobahn. It loves to go fast. We had to set the speed alarm to 90 to help me avoid taking it up in to the triple digits.

I'm confused...why do people always try and compare *any* Porsche with *any* other kind of car? In my opinion, the reasons that I like Porsche's more is because of the little things that make a difference. It's a "whole car" kinda concept. Overall, NO ONE makes a car like Porsche does..."No one even comes close"

So please quit comparing one small area and look at the big picture please!

My .02 worth...
