Do all new iPod variants interface correctly?
Hi all.
When I ordered my Cayenne I specified:
9W1 - Telephone module
UF1 - Universal Audio Interface
7T1 - PCM including Navigation module
Amongst other things
I was planning on connecting my iPhone 4 using the cars Bluetooth and simply using it as a phone.
However I was also planning on leaving an iPod connected permanently to the USB interface within the arm rest - just for convenience.
I have yet to decide on which model to buy: Classic, Nano or Touch.
Do all of the current models work fully with the Cayenne's interface?
Do playlists and track shuffle work?
Another option is simply to leave a large USB memory stick plugged in.
Does anyone have any experience of this regarding quality and/or track browsing capabilities?
Do the iPods sound better than a USB stick?
Thanks in advance

i would say the sound depends on the bitrate over the source (what bitrate is your music) also its instant and easy to take music off itunes onto an ipod but sometimes impossible if you bought the music and want it on a USB stick... ipod is also easier to update.
i would purchase the largest internal space ipod nano (16GB), it is the smallest unit with the proper connection on the bottom for the ipod cable (shuffle doesn't have serial connection) and its tiny to fit in your space and has the clip on it to clip onto something in there... you can buy a shorter serial to usb cable as well offline thats like 4" and eliminate more clutter.
thats my 2 cents...

I've used a spare iPhone 3gs, a 2nd gen Touch, and now currently the 6th gen Nano- they all work seamlessly with the playlists, shuffle feature, browsing songs/artists, etc. within the PCM. The only thing I don't see is the ability to use the Genius playlist selections, but I'm assuming I could select those on the iPod and it would playback just the same. I opted for a 16g Nano since it's small and just a little more than half the price for a similar size Touch. A new Touch or even my 2nd gen I thought would be a waste sitting in the car all the time.
As Riley mentioned, sound quality of the media will depend more on the bitrate of the file, however, iPods have a built in equalizer to adjust the sound output of the music, obviously USB sticks do not have that feature.

I got the 160GB iPod classic, which stays in the car at all times. +1 on the shorter cable to eliminate clutter.
Plays ok, playlists work. The only thing that annoys me is that it seems to shuffle songs in the same way each time, but I have to double check on that.

Does the Porsche interface have the same 99 song limit when selecting shuffle?

Thx... Bad reviews on the Radtech cable, but I suppose I'll give it a try.

With the mObridge unit installed, when you select Shuffle/random (?), below the title of song that is currently playing you will see "2/99". As you play or skip songs it will progress through 3/99, 4/99 ect. On long trips I have reached the 99th song but it was because I skipped a whole bunch of songs (since the mObridge doesn't remember you wanted it on shuffle/random after you turn off the key).

I had a 2011 Cayenne S with audio interface and the most current version of the Nano. It did not work...actually if would work as long as you didn't change playlists, at which point it would scramble things throughout each playlists. If you didn't unplug and reset the iPod, it would get worse to the point where the song playing would not even match what was showing on the PCM display.

Thanks for all of your replies :-)
I had been leaning towards the largest Nano, but Dave's comment above has me a bit worried :-(
Does anyone else have any experiences with the Nano, positive or negative?
Or indeed anything else on any of the varients?
I like the look of the shorter cables - will need to see if they can be purchased in the UK though . . . .

As I mentioned above, no issues with the 6th gen Nano for me. I use it more times than not when I'm in the car.
