Default Looks like my 60,000 mile service is coming 1,000 miles early...

We just rolled over 59,000 miles yesterday. My wife called today after leaving to go to the store and she reported that the engine was running rough and the car smelled like sulfur. She drove home, and a CEL illuminated as soon as she pulled into the driveway.

We took the Cayenne up to the dealer and dropped it off. Fortunately, it's only about 3 or 4 miles from my house. The service tech suspects that it is a bad coil or two. We'll see. While they have it, we are going to get the 60,000 mile service done.

According to the maintenance checklist on renntech.org, the 60,000 mile service is considered a "minor" service, although Porsche recommends changing the plugs also. I am hopeful that my aftermarket warranty will pay for the new coils, but we'll see. I'm not holding my breath.

Our Thanksgiving road trip tomorrow looks like it will be in the Volvo. It's only a 3 hour drive, but I'd much rather be taking the Cayenne!

I actually just got a call back from the dealer. It was, in fact, bad coils causing the issue. Almost 60K on the originaly coils isn't too bad, really. I was pleased to hear that all 8 coils will be replaced under warranty. I'll end up paying for the rest of the normal 60K service, which includes an oil change, brake fluid flush, plugs, etc. I should be out the door for less than $1,000 - which is always great news when the Cayenne goes into the dealer. They have also promised it by tomorrow afternoon, so we'll be taking it on the road for Thanksgiving. Life is good!

Glad to hear Dennis. Do you a CPO warranty to get the coils or some other warranty?

Mine is an aftermarket warranty that I purchased from the Porsche dealer when we bought the Cayenne. This is actually the first time we have used it - every other repair has been covered by the original Porsche factory warranty (that one expired at 4 years, which was October of 2008).

Sounds good. We're having the (wife's) family here for T.day. Already have one big a$$ Holiday Rambler motor home in my driveway now, the rest will be by car and stay in the house. 3 additional dogs and 6 additional humans.

Well Bill, I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.

We were originally supposed to host a large group here, but plans changed at the last minute. We're headed to Chicago. We'll have Thanksgiving dinner at my brother in-law's house, and then I got a couple of rooms at the Hilton for the family. It should be fun.

Thank you sir! I hope you have the same. BTW the motor home is a 41 footer powered by a 400 hp Cummins, and they brought the Jeep behind it.

Just got to Chicago. The Cayenne runs much better. I had the horns replaced (under warranty too). Maybe I'll actually get to honk at somebody before they stop working again!

How safe is it to honk in Chicago?

We're back home now. I still haven't honked at anybody. Car running great. The police were out in force - nothing like I've ever seen before. On I-80/90 near South Bend, we saw literally 30 radar cops along the interstate. It was unbelievable.

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving too - ours was nice.
