I am replacing pads (and maybe rotors) because my brake workshop light is on. The tech is telling me that I need to replace sensors as well. I had never heard of this before. Is that correct?

That is correct. They aren't expensive.

Yeah thanks guys - I don't know how they were designed but once I saw it...well. They showed me the old ones and it's amazing how quickly they get destroyed once the workshop signal comes on. I probably had only about 30-40 miles on them before I got to the shop!

Disclaimer: Haven't had to do brakes on the Pepper yet but have done them on the (old) '88 911 and a few BMW's w/ sensors

You don't HAVE to replace the sensors if you haven't gotten down to the point where the light has come on (sensors being worn down) but it just makes sense to replace them any time the pads are changed. The retainers on the sensors get brittle with the heat cycles of the brakes and may break when you try to remove/reinstall them. The sensors aren't that expensive.

Turbo S

Has anyone replaced pads on a 2006 Turbo S?. I'd like to go with Hawk ceramic but it doesn't look they make them for the Turbo S front. I've found them for the rear but not the front which has 380mm (15") rotors.

At my 15k service and DMV inspection was told that I was going to need new front pads within the next 3k miles...$1000

1k for just front pads is no deal! I would look for someone else to do that work. At the end of the day I paid about $1050 for pads front and rear, and two new front rotors, as well as sensors F/R.

Turbo S

Nobody out there with a Turbo S? I can't find any front pads other than OEM. 2006 Turbo S has 380mm (15") front rotors. I wanted to try the Hawk ceramic but they only make them for the rear. I'm hoping to find something dustless.

just replacing my pads and while I was looking online I found that Auto Parts Warehouse, has Koolvue Kevlar/ceramic pads on clearance for $19/rear, $25/front!! normally these pads run over $100/set! I picked up two pairs. They have 17 sets left. These are great pads on par with EBC
