I do not think you can use 45s without recalibrating the computer. Your speedometer will not be correct since the circumference of the tire is more with a 45 tire. Does this make sense?

Ugh - isn't this supposed to be an off-road vehicle?

If so - why does everyone keep trying to make a SUV into a sports car?

Inquiring minds kinda wanna know...

Why did you get a hemi in your grand cherokee? For its off road capability?

ocnyporsche I just got the 45 series to have a little more tire for the random pothole I always seam to find on the road. I don't try to race the cayenne but I have done some offroading in it. I ran a Garmini GPS to see if it was off and it was not I don't know how but must not been enough of a differences to cause it.

Hey john does going with 45series instead of 40 series makes this a race car ??? with a taller tire? or have i missed something?

How many Cayennes actually leave the pavement? Very few...

If I was going to really use it as a true off-road vehicle, I'd drop down to 18s with thicker rubber and knobby tires. Fortunately, the HUMMER works well in off-road applications, so the Cayenne can stay on the street.

I totally see why 45s would be a more ideal in some respects. But it is not just the speedometer that can be off. The ABS, and the AWD systems can be affected by a change of "height" or circumference. If 45s are desired, then I think that 19" are the way to go.

OCNY, I think the issue with AWD/ABS and other systems that are tire dependent is a difference in rotation speed per wheel... not the overall diameter which would only effect the speedometer reading. When you mix and match different sizes front to rear the percent difference in rotation speed is what messes things up. If all the tires are the same overall diameter then it should still work find.

BINGO! Reborn 996 it is the same all the way around just for that reason if I were to have a problem now I would have the same problem with the 40 series mine is 275-45-20 all around instead of 275-40-20 the whole way around.

Default One of the biggest reasons we bought the Cayenne is.....

The phenomenal level of handling it provides for an SUV. It is simply silly how well the Cayenne can handle. Going to a staggered set-up with wider tires in the rear in a front-heavy vehicle will increase the tendency to understeer, thereby diminishing the sharpness of the turn-in. Adding spacers to only the rear will do the same thing.

This is very different from a rear or mid engine vehicle in which the chassis dynamics are completely different.

The best thing to do on a Cayenne is to actually use spacers in front to increase the front track relative to the rear, although cosmetically this may not be as appealing. I'll probably end up getting a set of H&R 15mm spacers for both front and rear. I'm running 275/45/19 on 19x9 wheels.
