Default Forge vs Flow Form Wheels

Hi All,

I'm a new Porsche owner and getting my 2012 Cayman S ready for track day as a newbie. I'm planning to track as much as I can, and would love some advices for wheels options and set up as well as the pros & cons.

Is 18" always a better choice than 19" as not many wheels clear 380mm bbk but more tire choices and cheaper?
Is it worth to use forge on track or flow form is good enough as 18' flow form is about 20LBS?
Do you guys always prepare extra set of wheels track day or just tires, if just tires, do most track provide mount and balance?

Appreciate all feedback.

Thanks

Don't do anything to the car until you talk to the track people in your region. Contact the Chief Driving Instructor and ask him what you need for your first event.
There are great resources and "been there done that" folks in your region and in the "Racing and Driver Education" section of Rennlist. Welcome to the addiction.

1) Buy a good tire pressure gauge and a torque wrench for your wheels
2) Watch this video: CVR DE Video
3) Figure out how to register for events and do so the minute the event opens as instructed groups fill up quickly
4) Talk equipment strategy over with your instructor and people around you at the track and progress from there before you start spending money on stuff you don't need.
5) Spending money with this activity will never be s problem because there will always be something else to buy - have fun!

If you are just starting just show up. Get car inspected, at most flush with good brake fluid.

i actually have to buy a set of wheels as the one I have on the car now, is warped. So no matter what have to get a set of wheels, if not 2, one for track, one for street. so now can't decide to go forge or flow form, and 18" or 19".

what do you guys think..

Got it! I would DEFINITELY stick with the 18 in wheels as you will have a lot of tire choices available plus if you ever are going to race, those are the required sizes. I have a set of very light OZ Alleggeritas that I use as my rain tires and two sets of much stronger Forgeline wheels that I use for my slicks. For regular DE, the OZs are a very good choice plus IMHO, they look good on a Cayman.

didn't know you can't track with 19, must be 18.

I guess 18 it is.

Yes, I looked into OZ, might give my friend's wheel brand a shot, supposedly flow formed and lighter than OZ and decent price too
