Is the Porsche CPO really 6 years? I was under the impression that it's only 2 years.

If the vehicle is still under factory warranty, it extends coverage to six years, 100k miles from time vehicle was originally put into service, not to exceed 100k odometer miles. If it is outside of factory warranty, coverage is two years, 50k miles from time of purchase, not to exceed 100k odometer miles.

Yeah, that's what I thought. 6 years is really only if you get a CPO on a car that was quickly sold back to a dealer after initial purchase. If looking to buy a 2013, which was probably actually sold in 2012, you're looking at 2-3 year warranty depending on original sale date.

In such a case, does it make sense bothering with the Porsche CPO, or just go for the longer duration after market? Also, if you do go Porsche CPO, do you need an aftermarket once CPO expires or should these really not be held that long?

I talking form the 2012 911 perspective but I'm fining that not many warranty companies are willing to underwrite a policy on a car that has exhausted the factory warranty. The one I found wanted $6200 for a 2 year policy that ran concurrently with the CPO warranty. If you keep a vehicle long enough, a warranty won't be feasible, especially since most will only cover a maximum of what the vehicle is worth...i.e. an engine replacement on a 10 year old car many not meet their profit equation (same logic insurance companies use when the total a car with minor damage versus fix it). I'd do CPO, maintain the car, and be of the belief that it will take care of you.
