I really liked the concept car when I first saw it. The spy shots look too much like a Macan back end grafted onto a Panamera front end. Oh well, it probably won't make it to the States.

That in GTS trim, please! Agree however that it probably won't come stateside, like the M5 and S6 wagons.

These test mules are regular Panamera test mules (as you can see from the shape of the doors) with a piggyback. They are not wagons, and don't have any mods to the body. Just covers that change the aerodynamics and weight to match that of a potential wagon.

Now you may ask why Porsche built these things. Well, high speed handling is very important in a Porsche. So, before spending an awful lot of money on engineering an additional body type, why not test the impact on driving dynamics first?

That's what these are for. Nothing to get excited over... at least not, yet.

I would simply think that they are using this “added back shape” to hide the new line of the back.
..my 2 cents !

Why would they, if all the other test mules don't have it?

In fact, the other test mules were first, and the one with the "added back shape", as you call it, has only appeared very recently.

Think about it this way:

Unlike many other cars, a Porsche has to handle perfectly at speeds well above 150mph. This is where changes in aerodynamics and weight balance make a huge difference.

Remember the early Audi TT models flying off the Autobahn, injuring and killing people? That was all because of poor high speed aerodynamics. Porsche can't take any risks in this area...
