Default OT: new BMW 540i or MB S-Class CPO

Hi,

Need to replace my 2014 BMW 535 in the next few months. I like the new 540i, but I am also tempted to get a 2014-2015 MB S-Class 550. Would like to hear thoughts from the forum on which one they would choose. This will be my wife's daily but I will drive it in weekends with the family as well. From my perspective, here is how I see it:

BMW 540i: lighter, new platform, good on gas, nice gadgets. It's very quiet inside, it's fast enough, but my main complaint is that the engine, though effective, has zero emotion...This I will lease

MB 550: it gives you the proper luxury drive experience, the engine has charm, and it rides like a glove yet you can go fast enough with it. It's less economical on gas, I would assume more expensive to maintain (vs maintenance included in the BMW lease)

For me the rational decision is to lease the 540i and not go crazy with options, yet the idea of the S-Class is tempting...

Two different beasts, the S class and 5 series, but I've always liked MB interiors more than BMWs. If you're looking at the 5 series, why not compare it to the new (or CPO previous gen) E class? I currently drive a 2014 E63 so I'm a bit biased...

Good point...problem from my POV with the E-Class is that you have the E300 (4 cylinder turbo) and then you go the AMG models, which are much more expensive than the 540i, specially with a lease. The previous gen it's nice and reasonably priced, but the wife doesn't want a previous gen car

I enjoyed my 535i (with Dinan stage one chip) a lot. Traded it on the Tesla. If I wanted to go back to a gas sedan, 5-series would be my choice.

Assuming she likes the driving experience of both equally, the worry-free way to go would be the 5 series lease that would include maintenance. A '15 S class with CPO extension would cover you out to 2022, but maintenance will be out of pocket. Looks like you live in Miami so I'm assuming uniqueness is equivalent between the two. Where I live, 5 series are a dime a dozen whereas I've only seen a handful of S classes roaming around.

Seriously, why are you posting this on a Porsche water cooled 911 forum? Thus must be the most mundane irrelevant post I've ever read. Pick the S class.

Why not Audi? Keep it in the VAG family...
