Any Porsche parts department has them either in stock or can be ordered . Contact Roslyn Porsche 516-625-5544 and ask for Renson parts manager . email: renson@porscheroslyn.com

Unfortunately, Porsche won't be able to sell you one unless you specced it with the car. The best way to get one is to get it through Suncoast and they can ship it to you with Hazmat shipping. Most dealer don't have this type of shipping.
I went through this ordeal with my Boxster Spyder as well, since I didn't spec it on my original order.

This plus the hassle of trying to order a replacement OEM unit were big parts of why I passed on this option. I hadn't heard that dealers could order a replacement even if it came with the car; when I looked into this, people were striking out with dealers. I think the OEM extinguisher's size also falls short of the requirements of the HPDE requirements of some PCA chapters.

I don't know. A lot of questions here...
-First priority if car is on fire is to put out fire; I'll worry about corrosion after
-One aftermarket under-seat extinguisher kits designed for Porsches was $480; but is NLA
-Factory extinguisher is $140 as an option; pretty good deal, one might say
-Halon is an internationally banned retardant—gettable, but not easily; I think it has to be recycled?
-Can the factory extinguisher be recharged? If so, it's a good option.
-Some people like factory stuff; maybe it's been crash tested, or at least engineered for that, etc.
I am sure there are some good points and bad points I am missing here, but interesting to see the factory setup criticized as a bad way to go...
And these are a couple of good points. I wonder if the factory mount can't be used with other extinguishers. If it can, I'd say $140—even for just the mount so long as it will hold a big enough bottle—is a bargain.

Definitely agree halon is superior (for the aftermath cleanup). But it's a fair bit of trouble to put in the car. Also, I carry a fire bottle not only for my car, but for cases where someone else's is burning. In that case, my interest in the hassles and cost of halon drops further. Fwiw, I think the factory option is a great setup at $140. Retardant has its downside, but the unit is engineered by Porsche, looks nice in the interior, ready to go if needed, and one of the least expensive/highest value (imo) options offered by Porsche.
