For me its a little complicated, but ultimately comes down to a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush...
GT3 will be announced in Geneva in March. It will be able to be ordered with MT and most likely with the 4.0. As this is the GT3 the engine willl have no artificial restrictions.
A GT4 RS is still very speculative. Will they, wont they? Even if they do build one, it will be a long time before this is confirmed. If you pass up on the GT3 and they dont build a GT4 RS you've missed the boat (no pun intended).
The other thing for me is what would a GT4 RS look like if they did build one. My thinking behind why they might build the GT4 RS is so that they could release a clubsport version of it which is more competitive in the GT4 category than the current one. More power - yes, but also most likely to come with a PDK so they dont have to release a special PDK version for the clubsport. Another reason for PDK only is they have made it clear that the RS model(s) are all about performance.
A big part of the GT4 experience for me is the manual gearbox, so PDK only means I'm not interested.
Lastly, assuming it gets the 4.0, it would definitely be restricted in some way so as not to show up big brother. For those that prefer to stay stock, you will be living with a lessor engine.
So back to where I started. The GT3 with a manual will be a beast and will be announced in just over a month. The GT4 RS is speculative, and may not come with a manual. Easy choice!

I'll take the bet $50 1/2 each to mine and your charity as I am in the UK.
No badged up GT3 with a manual to be at the motorshow in March.
Now Porsche might make another car with another name with a manual, but that's for another thread and rumor ;-)
But this bet is for a badged up GT3 to not have a manual. ok ?

If the 4rs is ever produced, it would be a nice improvement over the gt4 but I reckon it will be slower than the 991.2 GT3. Porsche will ensure the pecking over will be maintained. So buy 991.2 GT3 and deposit down for the 4rs I say.

My peeps tell me all RS models plan to be PDK only, so unless something changes, I would expect only the GT4 and GT3 to be manual.
The PDK gearbox is the easiest way to increase performance figures, without actually increasing hp or aero. Just another tool for typical Porsche incremental performance and differentiation between the models. I'm fine with that, give me a third pedal and I'm happy being slower.

I think I would be tough to press on this.
Mid engine or Rear engine, I think it just comes down to preference. I would probably "settle" for the GT4RS but you really cant go wrong....

Given the choice I would pick a GT4 RS with PDK-S, then I'd have one of each transmission.
The 991.2 GT3 is still rear engine, although the middle rear engine RSR gives us hope for the 992.
I could see Porsche producing a 982 GT4 with 3.8L X51 9A1, and a 982 GT4 RS with a 3.8L version of the MA176 to keep it behind the 4L MA176 in the 991.2 GT3.
Multi link rear suspension would be a plus.

Personally 4RS because I have a Carrera GTS on the way. Yes the GTS is not a GT3 but I don't like having 2 cars of the same series at once.
Does that make sense?
