Look your VIN up on the build database, that will give you the month of your build.

3/16...bummer. Thanks Pete.

I'm curious if anyone knows the build date of the sharkwerks car. My understanding, is that car was confirmed to have the weaker 3rd when swapping for shorter gears.

Mine was built on 4/16. I can hardly wait. Have any Spyders had this issue?

I belive all GT4 gearboxes had the same design of third gear the 15s wernt splined. I think it's a run of bad welds . Could be prep or some manufacturing process change. They may have caught it and no one will know?

We need all of those with a failure to enter their data . There are 17 in the data base I thought there were 20 ish cars affected that were mentioned.

The data base may be valuable for a owner that has the problem and Porshe doesn't want to warrenty the repair.

Yes, while there does at this point appear to be a build date window where the 3rd gear issue occurs, more data is needed to solidify any conclusions.

Consider that only cars with failures are in the list. I wonder if there are any 2016 build cars with significant track use that have not had the 3rd gear fail? Or are any 2015 build cars with the failure missing from he list or not identified because the build/delivery date is missing?

In any case, this list is a good start on understanding the failure.

I have 13 days track days on a March 2016 build. Instructor run group, RE71 and Hoosier R7 tires.

Just wondering if anyone whose 3rd gear has failed on track experienced an over rev as a result of the gear failing. I can easily imagine the gear failing under load at a high engine speed and the result being sudden unloading of the engine and engine speed spiking.

When I was compiling the info for Steve to update the database, I came across one comment where the engine went to the rev limiter upon gear failure. Hitting the rev limiter will show Stage 1 range ignitions in the DME over-rev report, possibly Range 2, neither of which are of concern, and neither will prevent a car obtaining a CPO warranty from Porsche.

Good to know, thanks.

I don't see Marty's (Mech33) car in the database.

Not a single 2015 mfg car has failed that we know of?

That would support the bad (weld) batch theory but the inability of Porsche to supply an adequate # of transmissions could potentially be due to a revamp of the design?

To be clear, you did not have a gear failure yet?
