Great timing on this. I've been struggling to find a mic setup that wasn't insanely expensive (when I want a Rode ). Looks like a great option for the money.

Good timing for me too. Just got my GT4 last month. I was wondering how to set up in-car camera. THANKS, Moveswiftly, for the detailed info!

I just went back to my trusty Racelogic / VBox. Breath of fresh air.
Its $2500 but its complete out of the box and by the time you add on all the brackets and holders and stuff above it also adds up.

Grab SD card, edit and load on Youtube.
You need a laptop, the only disadvantage over Harry's Laptimer
racelogic/Vbox is a great setup but is pricey. When I get more advanced I may consider one. My total setup ran me about $600 and for my purposes is good. HLT isn't perfect but I've learned how to work it and even how to salvage data if things get corrupted. I also think that HLT will have a lot more growth in the future and will become even better.

I thought I recognized your username, it just didn't quite click haha. When are we getting some Race Headers on that baby to compliment the videos?!

+1

I have had the same experience with HLT. When it works, it works great, but it seems hit or miss. I would think it was all set up perfectly, but after my session I would look at it and it had failed to start or record.

I switched to an AIM Solo DL. It works perfectly each time, every time. All my tracks are preloaded, and it automatically selects the correct track and direction.

Just my 2c.

Place the phone with airplane mode and turn on wifi and Bluetooth! I've never had issues with the setup!

Would you be able to share how to tuck the mic wire under the rear hatch carpet? I'm uncertain how the trunk lining comes out in order to route the mic wire. Thx!

Nice setup.

However, I'd mount the mic much further from the exhaust. It sounds nice and exhaust companies want to completely foreground that sound, but for track videos I think it's too loud compared to tire squeal and berm rumble.
