High revs caused limp mode
During a fun driving tour, the car went into limp mode after reaching 6800-7000 RPM. When I pulled over and turned the car off for a few minutes, the dash showed a check engine light warning but drivable condition.
I drove to the dealer and they found the crankshaft position sensor to be bad. This happened on a Friday morning and by Monday morning I was back on the road. Odd and embarrassing since the car has only 3100 mi.
It started a few weeks ago on the track whenever I would get close to the top range of the revs. I thought it was odd but the car ran fine otherwise. When it happened again on the tour, it finally threw the fault codes.

This happened to someone here. High RPM, car goes limp and he gets a check engine and traction failure message. After diagnosis he was told his cats melted! They are investigating the issue.
This happened to me when I installed an aftermarket exhaust, but since going back to stock all is OK so far

This happened to a good friend. They had a relatively new 981 (2014) base that they ordered. After proper break in took it to the Glen. Went into limp mode just as described by OP.
Exactly same problem with sensor. Dealer fixed and car was fine.

Went on a spirited ride today! Reved the car close to the limiter often to see if the issue was fixed. Glad to report that no other issues raised!! What an awesome machine.
