Is there a way to clear the service code?

Is there a way to clear the service code?
I was told that you can buy a special scan tool specifically made for Porsches that will enable you to clear codes.
The battery died in my Boxster, and after recharging the battery the air bag light came on the dash, as well as the "PSM" light.
So I took it in to the dealer and the first thing he asked was "have you had a dead battery lately" and I said yes.
Apparently a dead battery will throw codes like the ones mentioned.
It cost me $150.00 to have the codes cleared.
I also have the annoying "Service" code whenever I start up the car.
Is there a scan tool I can buy that can clear these type of codes.
Would save a lot of time and money.

Annoyingly, it seems that PIWIS, Durametric, and maybe some intermediately priced independent shop tools are the only ways to clear those, based on a lot of reading I've done on P9. $150 to clear codes is outrageous, but sadly not inconsistent with what I've found. On the BMW side, there's a way to do this in the instrument cluster. Sigh....

Why didn't you have them clear the service code at the same time?

The service guy said that he could not clear the service code if I didn't get the oil change done at their dealership.
I change it myself.
I need to get a durametric tool. Thanks Soupy for that tip.
When I had the spark plugs changed in April at a different dealer at a cost of $430.00, I asked if they could clear the "service" code and he said he could for another $75.00.
The one downside to Porsche ownership is that they nickel and dime you for anything and everything.

I've heard some conflicting stories on how effective the Durametic is with the 981 chassis. What is the story with that?
On my 987.1, I've been staring at the service now message on startup for 2+ yrs now, I don't even notice it anymore...

They've got a chart on their site showing what is and is not possible with their various cable types on various chassis types. I'm told they're also very responsive if you contact them with questions.
