997 Carrera GTS or 991 Carrera
The time has come to purchase my first Porsche after a string of AMGs and M Power offerings.
My dream Porsche is a 997 GT3 but life is happening so compromises need to occur
The current options available to me are a 997 2011 Carrera GTS or a 991 2012 Carrera both with PDK.
My heart immediately says GTS but head says that there is more "value" in getting a 991 generation vehicle that has all the benefits of generational improvement over the 997.
Guidance please as I plan to keep the car for 5 years and use it as a daily commute with track days once a month.

Hmmmmm. The 991 is a better GT car and thus better suited for commuting, not track days.
The 997 will hold more value after 5 years as the 991 is on the decline.
In the end its all about what car speaks to you.

Drive them both and pay particularly close attention to the feel in the steering. Go with the one that you like better. 991 generation introduced the electric assisted steering. Not saying one is better than the other but they are different so it comes down to your preference during the test drive. Also GTS did have smaller production run so they are harder to find and I believe to be more valuable in the long run over the more ubiquitous Carrera of any generation.

I'd get the car that's most likely to hold value over the next 5 years, to set up better financially for the car you get 5 years from now.
Also, I'd get a cheap daily driver for most commuting and save the P-car for the fun stuff.
But that's just me.
