Anyone tow with a Class 3 hitch and 5k lb capacity?
Thinking about trailering my 997 to track days. Have an old Tahoe now for towing but I can't rely on it, thinking about replacing my daily drive (commute 25mi each way, about 45min-1hr each way due to traffic) with something that can tow. Drive a Benz wagon now. Thinking generally, mid size SUVs have 5k lb tow capacity with a few exceptions.
Question is whether a class 3 hitch, 5k lb capacity setup is comfortable/safe for towing a few times a year. For instance, a Toyota 4runner or highlander with a Trailex Alum trailer and the 911. The trailer is about 900lb, car about 3200 lb; that's 4100. Even with a few tools and potentially a set of tires/wheels, I'm still under 5k.
Anyone tow with this general setup? I suspect many do.
If I want greater tow capacity, that means a mid pickup or large SUV which is really impractical for commuting.
Thoughts appreciated.
