Default New Digs: More Space. More Performance. AWE Tuning.

25 years in the making, AWE Tuning has out performed its current space, and is movin' on up to a deluxe space roughly 3x current. More space to grow our Audi, BMW, Porsche, VW and McLaren lines, with room to progress down the road ahead. More space, more performance. Coming Summer 2015.

Building progress updated frequently, right here.

The Space

We didn’t just pick any old building when moving, we had a list of must-haves that was longer than… well it was long. We finally landed on a ~32,000 sq-ft building. It had the space, location, and some great other features that we were after, like tons of loading docks and space for our expanding team.

At this point, it’s a humongous square, and as you’ll see in a few more posts as we catch up to present, it’s all about the demolition right now. Tons of old cement walls to take out.

There’s a massive garage door entrance, great for no-worries car entrance.

And since 95% of what AWE Tuning builds goes out on a truck every day to dealers in over 75 countries 3 new loading docks are going to be a welcomed change for our shipping department and UPS/Fed-Ex alike.

This this won’t be open space for long, walls, lifts, machines, and more coming soon!

Next, we’re going to start knocking down walls.

Demolition

After what seemed like ages, we were ready to begin construction, but first we had to get rid of a few things. So we sent in professionals that perform like we do. In mere days they had removed the old to make way for the new. One step closer to more performance.

Construction

Now that the fun part is nearing completion (knocking stuff down), we can get started on the exciting part (putting stuff up). We haven’t wasted any time, as you can see there is already framing for rooms and offices.

More soon!

Construction: Part II

Things are moving right along at the new building. We have some new windows and rooms, and offices are beginning to take shape. What you’re looking at here is the “R&D” corridor which will house all of the engineering lifts with a big fat pass through for the 3-D Scanner to flow between the cars and the engineering stations in the office area.

The space is well lit - sunlight = inspiration. Lots of skylights throughout.

And new windows galore, taking what was a big box to a big box with light!

Walls and more walls.

Things are really starting to come together. So many projects are now entering the final stages of construction. We are little over a month from move in-- things are going to start happening very quickly.

Here’s a shot of the future home of our shipping and receiving manager, right on the floor to keep an eye on things.

The soon-to-be R&D department.

Insulation in the main office area is done, so much that they have drywall up. Transums for maximum light.

The beginnings of the dyno cell!

Stay tuned as there will be almost daily changes from here!

...And then there were stilts.

Kind of need some of these. I think these are the Touring Edition.

Putting the finishing touches on some of the drywall work.

Taking Shape

Our new home is starting to look like the next chapter in AWE Tuning. With offices taking their final form, and our showroom getting a brand new garage door, tile flooring and giant windows all the way across.

Entrance and Showroom windows installed. There’s going to be a cool “AWE Tuning Red” cover over the main door near where the discolored block is, to protect from the elements:

This area below will soon house our sales and marketing teams, full open collaboration layout including open meeting areas.

Directly across from the sales & marketing area will be the research and engineering team, including the prototyping team. One of the challenges in our current space is a long walk between the departments. Our goal with the open layout was to increase immediate communication to speed time-to-market and innovation. Engineering area seen here:

Another must-have for us was to ensure that everyone came together at least once a day in a central chill-zone. That’s this below. A cafe-meets-break-room-meets-collaboration space, this section will be stocked with comfy seating, high-tops, a kitchen, and outdoor access. Most importantly, it’s a place for everyone to meet, whether they’ve been typing or welding all day.

A view of the showroom from the soon to be reception desk. Room for cars, people and comfort.

The glass garage door will allow visitors to see into the R&D area from the showroom, and also allow for easy placement of cars into the showroom without driving outside first.

View of some of our the offices, including extra windows up top to ensure maximum natural light.

Additional offices and break out rooms:

She’s coming together!

Right around the corner.

Our official move date is fast approaching, and with that our building isn’t just starting to look like our new home, it is our new home. As you’re reading this portions of the company are shuttling everything they need to the new space. Over the new couple weeks the entire company will slowly funnel into the new state-of-the-art facility.

Holy shiny. This is the new R&D area. Prototyping / R&D lifts coming soon.

Peering into the showroom from installations and prototyping. There will be a clear line of sight from the showroom into where the magic happens.

Below, our new showroom getting the finishing touches. It’s about 600hp and a sofa away from being home.

Another view of our showroom from the main entrance.

Looking over reception into part of the office space, from the new front desk.

Bathrooms on the left, looking back into the offices, our marketing and sales departments right up front in an open and collaborative environment.

One of the new conference rooms - will be outfitted with a big (really big) monitor and we’re in the midst of finishing a custom conference room table.

The new home of the finance team.

Quick access for our engineering team to the installations and prototyping area. Note tile runway for the FARO arm - this was an important feature as the team is frequently rolling between “cars and CAD” and the ‘arm is a key member of the R&D team.

The new engineering team area - open, well lit and ready for an easy flow between marketing, sales and this department.

One of our favorite areas, the “cafe,” which will be a central location for all fabrication, engineering, sales, marketing, finance, prototyping, shipping and admin to come together for food, breaks and collaboration.

Next up… you might even see some furniture! Thanks for following along with us, stay tuned as we update with final decor and really “make it home.”

Research and Development. Developments.

Our brand new R&D area is getting the finishing touches. A quick shot of three of the five lifts that will make up the “lab” - in close proximity to the engineering offices (just on the other side of the wall on the left).

And below, this is the “runway” for our FaroArm between the lifts and the Engineering offices, to ensure speedy scanning-to-conception.

We are quickly wrapping up all the different areas in our new headquarters - stay tuned - we’re getting close!

We’re in!

It’s official. We’re in our new space! The entire AWE Tuning organization is now in our brand new state-of-the-art facility at 199 Precision Drive, Horsham, PA 19044.

Still a ton of work to be accomplished to make it feel and look like home, but as of today:
  • Fabrication is in place and producing at 100%
  • Engineering is R&D’ing
  • Marketing is writing stuff like this
  • Sales is selling
  • Finance is adding and subtracting (and multiplying and occasionally dividing)
  • Prototyping is fitting
  • Shipping is loading
In other words, this battle ship is fully operational.

We’re still working hard on the facility so stay tuned as she keeps coming together!
