Default Importing an engine from Europe

Not sure if this is the right forum but here goes:

Can anyone with real-world experience importing an engine into the US from Europe share their experience? This is a used engine for an older DOT certified car (I think this is different than importing a new or 'off-road' engine).
I'd love to find a shipper who can pick this thing up in France and deliver it to my door near Boston without getting customs delays or unexpected fees. I'd also like some advice on how it should be packaged.
Thanks in advance.

It should be strapped to pallet and wrapped in few layers of thick PVC.

If it is small enough it can be shipped in cardboard box, wrapped in PVC, sitting on thick layer of styro foam, rest of the space is filled with construction sprayfoam.

Oil leak is a major shipment problem so make sure it will not leak.
