Visiting Porsche Museum/Factory
I'm doing ED on a 2016 BMW M3 but will be stopping by Stuttgart on the way to the Ring. Has anyone done the Porsche factory/museum tour? It looks like they are open from Tue-Sun, do you have to make a reservation or do you just show up?

You need to make a reservation as they book out 3-4 months in advance. We did the same thing in 2011, and thought we could just show up for a factory tour. We did go to the museum, and sweet talked our way to a factory tour on the following day. The issue is with English speaking tours vs. German speaking.

I don't believe that they do factory tours on the weekend. I visited the museum on Saturday and then did the factory tour on Monday. And yes, the museum was closed when I did the factory tour.

Yeah I got a hold of booking and there are no tours on the weekend. I guess I'll just do the Porsche and MB museums on Sat and have lunch at the Porsche restaurant.

So the Porsche museum was cool, MB Museum was amazing, BMW museum was very good too. The MB museum had a lot of history and I thought it was cool how they related world events throughout time to what was going on at the company.
Porsche museum was smaller, had a good mix of classic stuff and new stuff, race cars etc. The restaurant was cool, pricey and the food was decent but not a must. Parking was easy at Porsche, nice underground garage with lots of nice cars.
I'll post some pics in a bit.

They rotate some exhibits at the Porsche Muesem. I was there in April and they had more LeMans cars on display. I felt the Mercedes Museum was prob the best out of the ones I visited (BMW being the 3rd) the trucks and such were awesome to see.

I've done all 3 (Porsche, BMW and MB) museums and although I'm a Porscheholic have to say that in my opinion the order is MB, then Porsche then BMW a distant 3rd. There is also a Museum in Sinsheim (about 1 hour NW of Stuttgart) the Auto+Teknik Museum that is absolutely fantastic and if you're in the area is an absolute don't miss for Auto, Aero, Train and WW II exhibits (including large number of Formula 1 cars).

If your near Munich and your going to do BMW another great museum is the Deutsches museum. They have three locations; one is at the regional airport (mainly aircraft - Duh!) the main center downtown (mining, aircraft, petrochemical and mainly technology including a real V1 & V2 rockets)on the river and the transportation section near the fairgrounds (cars, motorcycles and trains).
