Not knowing the details of the situation. But if he wasn't doing it to endanger other motorists- ten days in jail for doing 105mph!? Harsh.

Virginia is ridiculously harsh on speeding. I read that "reckless driving" (20+ over or 80+ mph) is the same misdemeanor as a DUI, animal cruelty and attempted sexual assault. That's just dumb.

Going 100+ on public roads is risky to say the least....

that said, the area where he got popped, it would be super easy to go 105, conditions permitting. Long sweeper followed by a good long straight before you have to slow down. In a GT3RS no less...

Default The Real Story

Having lived in Europe for six years driving 90 Mph or more wasn't a big deal there. I had a nice Audi most of that time. The autobahns and autostradas were awesome for making time from one destination to another's especially over a long distance. People didn't drive like idiots and there were far fewer accidents than here but Most Europeans are used to high speed driving. Speeds here are set to balance the average driver's lack of inexperience at driving at higher speeds and the majority of cars on our roads not made to operate at speeds in excess of 80mph (look at your tire's speed rating) and - sadly; revenue generation. Our freeways were designed initially to carry traffic at 80mph plus. Big brother is not ever going to let that happen with very few exceptions; e.g., Montana. This despite your and your car's capabilities.

Too bad the police rarely if ever write tickets for people who a) drive too slowly in the middle or left lanes of freeways/interstates (b) drive in the left lane of a 3 or more lane highway until the last minute before trying to exit (c) Just drive poorly/dangerously in general with no regard for other motorists. While I concede that speed in certain situations can be/is dangerous and/or reckless, in and of itself under the right conditions isn't; yet it'll get you a ticket every time if there happens to be a cop sitting there sipping his coffee and eating a doughnut !
