SmartCam HD Rev.2 Field of View
For closed-roof cars, the AiM marketing materials recommend getting the SmartyCam HD Rev.2 with the "narrow" field of view which is 60 degrees. The "wide" field of view model is 120 degrees.
The ReplayXD 1080 camera I am using now has a 130 degree field of view and seems just fine where I mount the camera.
What version of the SmartyCam HD Rev.2 are you guys using? Is 60 degrees too narrow? It would seem to me that it would be based on my current camera setup. 10 degrees less would be fine, but 70?
What metering modes are available? Spot? Center? Average?
What about the GP version? Does it have all the same features as the regular version. The camera I use now is the same size as the GP camera. It would seem the GP version would give you some flexibility in setting the camera up and seeing the screen since it could be mounted away from the camera.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

This is the "narrow" camera. Like you I wish there was a midpoint. The wide is too wide. the narrow just a tick too narrow. Mine is mounted on the cage right over my right shoulder. A bit wider and you could see side mirrors.
The metering has spot or evaluative (they use different terms) and you can set the location it uses for spot.
that said, this is a great device, I use mine with a solo dl and it's brainless to use.

They have recently reintroduced the 84 degree, which I consider most valuable when mounted immediately behind the driver on the plane of the main hoop of a roll bar or harness bar. Would be ideal for the view above.
The 60 works very well when hung with a suction cup on the inside of the rear glass, I recommend them for 991 and Viper applications.
The 120 works well when mounted inside near the top of the forward windscreen. Just the track and front corners of the car view.
These are also available in the GP version, with the separate bullet cam, but I prefer the all-in-one.

I prefer the all in one camera as well, but the GP does exactly the same thing. I find for most cars, it's harder to find a spot for the recorder on the GP if you don't buy the specially made bracket (or make one). Plus, the GP comes at a $100 premium.
I think the 84 is the best all around FOW.

The original SC SD's were 67 and 84. The original HD Rev1 were 67 and 84, but I have never seen 67's in the US in the last six years.
The Rev2 had a different lens supplier because the original supplier couldn't keep up. Only 60, then 120 became available.
Now, with the Rev2.1 (says so on the front face of the all in one camera, plus a perforated rear cover for the mic), you have the choice of 60, 84 or 120 in both the all in one and the GP version.

The link shows the older rev2 version, not the newer rev2.1 version, so it's behind the curve...
Plus, it's doesn't make a damn bit of difference. The "narrow" angle, while perfectly adequate, is going to yield just about the same FOV at that focal length. The 84 is what I like and most of what I stock and sell.
