Default Chicagoland - best winding drives?

996tt in the garage in Chicagoland. The roads in Chicago do _not_ do this car justice. Particularly kills me when I travel for work to Colorado, South Dakota, and Germany!

So, open post: favorite winding road drives within a day of Chicago? Details greatly appreciated (road, start/end points, etc.)

Spring is coming, and I need some better places to take the thing than the interstate or Sheridan Rd.

There are "Rustic Roads" just north of the boarder in Wisconsin. Definitely check those out.

The road I always enjoy driving but I never have the right car for is 78 in Wisconsin that takes you from I94 to Devil's Lake state park. If you could only get full camping gear for 4 in the frunk...

Lake shore drive, start downtown and keep going until you get past lake forest... Name of the road changes at one point, believe it's called Sheridan road. Stay on the street along Lake Michigan for the whole drive...

In the summer, in a convertible, it's pure nirvana.

Most scenic. Not a fast drive or challenging, but the best drive you can take in the Midwest...

Fun driving past the mansions, and historic homes....

I'm part of upper midwest S2k club and we do an annual Starved Rock run! The route is to starved rock national park. Park itself is worth the drive if you like trails and hiking. I don't know the actual route, but it starts in Minooka Illinois and it winds its way to Starved Rock.. I recall getting the S up to 75 on some of the straights.. Redlined 3rd gear on a couple of the straights too. You pass through about 4 towns. I bet you can google it to get the route.

I just make a trip to TN/NC area once or twice per year for the Tail of the Dragon and other amazing surrounding roads.

Can't beat this:

What is the police presence on those roads down there? That is certainly one of the trips I've considered, and don't need to scream through to have it be fun, but would like to avoid being picked off by local authorities who find the "tourists" to the area easy prey...

if you have some favorite road segments, would be awesome to have some details.

I went there 3 times in the past few years and going again in May. Haven't had any problems so far, knock on wood. You have to be careful on the US-129 Tail of the Dragon itself as there are more cops there due to its popularity, but the surrounding roads seem to be rather open. Let's just say, over 3 days, I get tired of beating on my car around the bends

I typically make sure to visit these roads, but honestly you can probably drive in any direction there and find good scenery and pavement: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...C-83.63675&z=9

I was about to ask this question.

I'm glad someone already did!

In the city you can make a very fun loop LSD>lower wacker> 290>90/94>55 back to LSD. Its tight, twisty, and you get get into the pedal a bit here and there!! You spend a bunch of time on higher speed on/off ramps

My 2 cents: Road america is the only place to take real corners at stupid speeds! Unless you go to BIR, then turn 1&2, that has serious pucker factor!
