Default Aftermarket exhaust

Did a search but surprisingly very little info posted. Who is using what and how does it sound? I'm looking for something a little louder but not over the top. I have to run my cats in my county, so removing them is not an option. I have heard that the Active brand by Vivid isn't quite loud enough. I have seen Beluga and Circuit Werks ads but have no sound clips.. Anyone shed some light?

Car I just purchased has fab speed headers with cats and maxflo mufflers. it sounds good but it's freaking loud if I'm honest. I think the mufflers alone would do it for you

one of the 987's I work on has the full engine-back Fabspeed exhaust setup, a little bit of drone but sounds nice

There are a few cheap options that a lot of the 986 guys run, I considered one for tracks with sound restrictions. Look up top speed exhausts, they're under $400.

if you want quality fabspeed is your go to, check their website they most likely have sound clips.

What year Boxster? How many cats do you have - 2 or 4? Remove your snorkel first (its there for the Swiss, I think). Replace the secondary cats with test pipes, since you're not in CA (just passed my 2nd annual emissions test in TX without those). Test pipes are $150 to $600, depending on who bent the pipe and welded the flanges on. Muffler would be next. Several choices and price points: DIY with a drill (keep factory muffler) or aftermarket PSE type using factory muffler; several offers on ebay from around the world; Fabspeed; PSE.

Depending on the year of your car there is going to be several different combinations of exhaust upgrades you can do. Each person has their own goals, and I would be very happy to go over them in detail with you and come up with a solution that will best meet them. PM heading your way, and look forward to chatting with you!

Congrats on picking up the car! Glad to hear it is decked out in Fabspeed already and you like the sound, but let's see what we can do to tone it down for you. Give me a ring sometime to chat about it, and you are pretty local so lets meet up at an event or hit the track together at some point

Excellent to hear your friend is enjoying the system. If he has some quality videos of it in action please tell him to send them my way, i'd love to feature his car on our website/social media!

Do you know what combination of our products he is running? Our Supercup Exhaust with/without our headers is very track oriented and is only for the truest of petrolheads for street use.

It is a shame the Boxster/Cayman platform has a tendency for cabin resonance with anything other than factory mufflers. We have minimized that as much as possible with the Maxflos, but for those sensitive to it we can only do so much and still have the car pickup power with a throatier/sportier sound. For those sensitive to in cabin noise, upgrading the headers provides a nice increase in sound and a higher/more exotic pitch while the factory mufflers are restrictive enough off throttle to maintain a drone free environment.

Thanks for the kind words! We put a lot of effort into our R&D and QC to put out products that match the sound and quality of the Porsche brand

Very insightful post, the year does come into play as there are two sets of cats on these early gen cars that change position depending on it. The desnorkel mod is underrated, it provides a nice little boost of throatiness from the engine that is quite enjoyable

Thanks for the replies. My car is a '97 and just looking for a bit more sound, not so much performance per se. It's just a grocery getter! I'm quite familiar with FabSpeed as I have Max Flos and Super Cups on a few different cars over the years. We do have to comply with emissions testing here. Was looking to get just a muffler vs a complete setup.

Try removing the snorkel. Also, you have four cats, so the test pipe thought might not be an easy option. Desnorkeling may well provide the sound you're looking for. And it's easy.

I have a 97 Boxster and I bought the Buluga exhaust you can find on eBay. I felt the quality was actually pretty good. I loved the sound of it, but a persistent drone from 2500-3000 caused me to remove it and sell it on.

I had de-snorkled the car around the same time as I installed the exhaust so didn't hear much sound difference from the intake. Once I went back to the stock exhaust, I could hear that pronounced intake roar, which is awesome! I may try the drill method on the stock muffler, but I love the way it sounds right now. If I had the money, I'd probably try the Fabspeed. A friend of mine had a Cayman S with Fabspeed exhaust and was just about perfect.
