Differences between Boxster and S?
I'm considering the purchase of a used Boxster or 911 in the Spring. What are the differences between the Boxster and the S besides of course the engine? I would use the car occasionally for commuting, a lot on the weekends, and once a month for autocrossing.
I prefer the styling of the Boxster over the 911 but I use the back seat of my 944 S2 quite frequently for golf clubs, and occasionally for my small children who love to ride with the top off. That's where the 911 appeals to me plus it has even more power.
Is it true that you can't change the oil yourself in a Boxster?
Thanks for your help,
Mickey

The main differences are
Suspension
Brakes
6 Speed transmission
headliner on the inside of the top
Two tips on the exhaust
Three inlets on the front bumper
and the "S" emblem on the rear.
And you CAN change your own oil on a Boxster. Just use the Search.

The Boxster's trunk is MUCH better for golf clubs than a rear seat!! And the kids grow up quickly (mine sure did) but I haven't! Who needs a rear seat???
As for the S vs. non S - all you have to do is drive one of each. I doubt you will ask this again if you do.

There's an interesting article in the new Excellence magazine about the latest Boxster S and whether the extra power is worth the extra money you put down for it. I would never argue with someone who wants more power, but I will say that don't be afraid of the "base" Boxster just because it appears to be short on power. Like Craigg said....be sure to drive 'em both.

Thanks for the input from all of you but it seems it was for nothing. I sat in a co-workers Boxster and I don't fit in it. I'm 6'3" and slim (195). The clutch is placed farther to the right than in any other car I've ever driven. With my size 14 feet and the steering wheel sitting so low it almost seems unsafe for me to even try to drive the Boxster (in case an emergency maneuver is required).
As far as headroom goes I was so shocked about the way my legs didn't fit that I forgot to check the car with the top up. What a HUGE disappointment! I'm so surprised because I have a ton more room in my 944. I can even wear a helmet with the seat only slightly reclined and even without a tilt steering wheel I fit in the car with ease.
Oh well, maybe I'll have better luck with a 996. I would just hate to have to pay about $10,000 more for a car without a sports suspension, without the red (presumably better) brakes and without the awesome dynamics of a mid-engined design.
Thanks again for your help,
Mickey

Height shouldn't be an insurmountable problem. Several people (some as tall as 6'9") have put in GT3 seats with the BK tall-man bracket and have passed the broomstick test easily.
I can verify that the GT3 seats are rather comfortable.
