The unit fits into the engine from up top under the intake manifold. I can't remember where exactly as it has been years since I have had viewed the engine and none of references show its location either.

Should be (should be) obvious. Has to have a wiring harness connection so look for that. About the only other things in that area are the knock sensors and they are off to the sides on the heads.

Not sure if you can remove this with the intake manifold in place or not. It is kind of long, nearly a foot I think. (I bought an old one and cut it apart to learn how it was put together and how it worked.)

You are welcome.

Be careful when you remove it. That hole leads right down into the bowels of the engine. Drop something and you might have to drop the engine and split the cases.

Why are you replacing the oil level sensor?

I replaced the sending unit because on the dash the oil level indicator well just keep blinking an never show the oil level. I'm sorry to say changing the sending unit did not fix the problem. Hine site, I should have asked the question here before changing the unit.
Thanks, Jake

It can be fixed. I had a similar problem with a 996 gauge.

I had Qmulus Tech do the repair.

Does anyone know how to trouble shoot the system, what to check, I would like to learn as much as I can about my car and how to fix it. I've brought a Bentley Publishers Service Manual and it not much help. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jake

Unfortunately that is a fairly common problem in my experience. The problem is actually in the instrument cluster and often results from a jump start or connecting a jump box or another batter with the polarity reversed.

PM me if you are interested in getting it repaired.

Hi Steve,
can you please share what it takes to fix the problem? I have the exact same issue with my 2001 Boxster S.
