Default Cross County in Boxster

While on a long term assignment in San Francisco I got a wild hair and decided to buy a car for use while there. I found a 99 boxster 150K miles in good shape, 4 year old salvage title $3500. Well long story short I liked it well enough to bring it back home to Smith Mountain Lake Virginia. My wife and I decided to make a vacation of it. We had a fantastic time, the car performed flawlessly except for a leak in the wiper fluid tank and a horn that went south. I did put a Surco luggage rack on the back so we could carry enough clothes. We covered 7 National Parks, cleared the continental divide south of Aspen. We took 12 days and covered 4082 miles and except for a little Sciatica I was pleased with the car and the ride. Now it's time to clean it up and wait for some fall trip.

That has got to be the best price/performance ratio you can get in an old Porsche. At this point everything else is gravy. Congrats.

Yep, I spent about an additional $300 fixing a window regulator, some interior plastics and putting new used top transmissions since the top was stuck in the down position. Paint and leather are in great condition. I also have the advantage of being a long time shade tree mechanic. If I decide to keep it i'll have to do the IMS fix for peace of mind.

My wife's suitcase will barely wedge into the frunk but that is a lot better than our previous Miata where we had to carry duffel bags. She didn't like that one bit! I'm putting together a little tool kit myself. First time I've felt the need to carry one since I owned a Fiat 124 Spider.

This thing is so thick I would have had to drive with the trunk propped open. Plus the front was full with my case, cameras, cooler, shoes and various hiking accessories. Much better than my Z3 though. The 2 storage areas make it so much more practical.

I did a cross country trip from Southern CA to Boston area in 2010. I found a nice sized suitcase that fit in the frunk and used soft bags in the rear trunk along with tools etc.

Yes those 2 trunks sure do come in handy.

i know the feeling......first time i had to tell my girlfriend that she only gets one side of the saddle bags on long long motorcycle trips....it wasn't pretty her expression

That's awesome! Love to hear it. Hope to take my Boxster on a trip like that when the kids get out of high school!
