Default Flywheel Lock Alternative

I'm doing a clutch on my 03 Boxster S and don't have a tool to lock the flywheel. I did a search and someone used a tranny bolt, washer and allen wrench to hold the flywheel, anybody got other alternatives or more specifics?

Wow, a week and no one has answered this. I have a small piece of metal strap with two holes in it.

Exact length isn't important, but mine is maybe 2-3" long. I found mine in my scrap drawer. The hole in one end is big enough to slip one of the transmission bolts through. The other is smaller, and I install one of the clutch pressure plate bolts.

I've used a piece of 550 parachord before. No rocket science here.

You're right, I was getting ready to cross post in the 911 water cooled forum! I guess the Boxster guys don't do much work themselves Thank you, I figure once I drop the tranny I'd find something that would work.

Just be careful your don't bend the reluctor teeth on the DMF. Check carefully & if any are bent ,carefully tap them back into the correct alignment.

Yes, visually check for damaged/bent reluctor teeth. Not the starter ring, the reluctor teeth. If the DMF is clumsily handled, they get bent and then the pick up gets a false message and the car will run very badly - if at all. AS you will have found, the part is very heavy and awkward to handle/fit if the engine is still in the car. Be careful - 30+ pounds of steel with sharp edges will leave an 'impression' on you if you fumble.

Rotate the motor to TDC and insert a pin into the hole (allen key, screw driver, whatever you can find if you don't have the factory lockout pin) in the crankshaft pulley to lock the crank from turning.
