18 inch squared wheel set up qn
Hi All
In the past I have had squared wheel set up for my track oriented Boxsters. I used 17 inch rear wheels in all four corners, specifically Porsche 8.5Jx17ET50 wheels. Although I would like to stick to 17 inch setup, I find there is less tires choices (ex: Mich Pilot supper sport discontinued for 17) for 17 inch hence deciding to go for 18 inch wheels.
I am trying to figure out what typical 18 inch Boxster rear wheels will fit on the front without an issue.
I think typical Porsche 18 inch is 9Jx18 ET52 (993.362.138.01) for rear, would this fit the front?
I don’t believe 18 came with 8.5?
If you have fitted 18 inch squared set up in your Boxster please let me know the wheel sizes (J & ET) that worked for you.
The car is 1997 Boxster.

First off, MPSS is not a great track tire. Street/DD you betcha!
Don't put 18" on a 97. IIRC, it can't handle that size
!7's are better for trackiing and you also save $$ on the trires
Try Bridgestone RE-71R for a really good performing street/track tire. Another one to look at is the new Hankook R-S4 255/40-17 are available in both.
No reviews or test yet on the R-S4, so YMMV. The R-S3 was the tire in its day

Not sure I agree. 18s are perfectly fine on a 97. And 17s are better for tracking is not proven out when at club races where near;y every car runs 18s (except for SPB who run 17s because they have to)

I plan to have a square set up so i can rotate the tires and get little bit more life out of it, so 17 (8.5) probably the biggest I can go I think for the front. I plan to buy few 8.5jx17 ET50 this weekend and make a set.

TSB #4407, dated March 4, 1997: " Eighteen inch wheels are not approved for use on Boxsters. Use of eighteen inch wheels on Boxsters under severe conditions may result in structural failures of the body and/or suspension".

I also found several other references to support this. I think if you are tracking 18 may not a good option for 97.
