Default MOMO Steering wheel install

The car is an '03 Boxster S. Has anyone installed an aftermarket steering wheel like a MOMO and still gotten the horn to work properly? It does not look like the MOMO hub will let me use the horn without a lot of modification. I know I'll have no airbag. I would like to have the stock horn set-up.

Thanks,
Dave

The horn should just be some wires. And a MOMO steering wheel should have a built in button depending on what model you got. You also need an adapter hub. Be aware your airbag light will be on after this.

Interesting to see this post.

I literally just installed a Momo wheel in my 986. While I used my Bentley manual to the best of my abilities, when I got to the airbag wiring, I basically had to cut the wires going to the hub that the airbag/wheel attaches to. I have no idea how I can use the wiring to properly attach to the horn. I plan on bringing it to my local P-performance shop (Autobahn) and see if they can help. In the meantime I have no horn!

I'm preparing to install a momo wheel, with momo adapter and the teqnik quick release in my 04 986S. The parts have not arrived yet - but I took the stock wheel off today.

My question - what do you do about the black airbag sprial spring thing? It has the steering angle sensor attached to it. Does the adapter accommodate this somehow?

sorry guys - studied this more and realized it is not steering angle sensor - all airbag stuff.

You guys may want to ping 986forum or Renntech to see if anyone else has done this.

While I wouldn't call this "without a lot of modification," I relocated my horn button to the dash: https://rennlist.com/forums/boxster-...-the-dash.html

Do you loose the clock spring when you add the steering wheel?

Look at this thread (9*6 & 993 use same airbag / horn / wiper / switch wiring) -> https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...ng-photos.html

Particularly, the MOMO hub details on pg2..

For the 993rs wheel, there's a slight difference in the thickness of the hub vs the original 4-spoke. You'll need an extra M14(?) washer. Here's the final result:

Is that the thing that turns off the turn signal after you turn? I've wondered why mine no longer turn off now that I have a detachable wheel/hub combo.
