Default when you lift off the throttle, does it sound like the car is blowing a raspberry?

I finally removed the catalytic converter's heat shields last night because they rattled again (after tightening them a few times) and now I can clearly hear the exhaust

so I've got this funny sound when you lift off the throttle, or when you slowly accelerate in a high gear, that sounds like the car blowing a raspberry, it goes away when you give more throttle, but returns when you lift, only seems to happen below 3000 rpm, so I hear it bouncing off fences and whatnot around town

I don't know if it's always been that way and I couldn't hear it because of the heat shields, but I don't particularly like it

(it's a 2002 S, stock exhaust)

heh, don't be, I felt dumb, I had to look up the term

it's when you stick your tongue out and blow, supposedly it's also called a Bronx Cheer

(I googled it before I posted trying not to sound stupid!)

Could be your air mass sensor going south. Try unplugging the sensor and seeing how the engine responds with it unplugged.

would that make this sound come from the muffler?

I had my wife rev the engine a little and it's very clearly coming from inside the muffler, which is... odd

...ir's a very english expression !!! I don't know if you can get a German car to blow a raspberry.

Anyway I reckon either you have a small leak in the exhaust somewhere or the echos are annoying you. I would recommend that you go to an open area to chase sounds like this as the reflected sounds always sound wierd.

If you can't reproduce it when the car is in open space then it's OK.

Quick Reply: when you lift off the throttle, does it sound like the car is blowing a raspberry?
