In recent years I've been pretty much just doing our local DC area PCA autox events. Earlier this month I did an SCCA event in Havelock NC at the Marine base (runway) that was tons of fun. They ran both Saturday and Sunday. I've been thinking about some more out of town events.

Does anyone have recommendations for events approximately 5 hours or less from the DC area that would be worth the trip? I'm not looking for the top level competition SCCA events -- big venue with multiple days and lots of runs is what I prefer.

You can come up to Northern NJ. Metlife is one of the best venues in the North East. The venue is also 15 minutes from NYC. It's rare to get two days in the row at that lot, though.

There aren't a whole lot of 2-day events in this area, it's mostly just Sunday only. WDCR events at FedEx Field are about as serious as they come for regional events, but there's a lot of great competition there and you're going to get mostly good courses and would be your closest. I know there are a lot of good events at Hershey and Dover, though I don't follow those schedules too closely. If you head south, VMSC and NASA events at VMP in Petersburg are really good- it's a big lot and they're pretty low-key events. BRR-SCCA events at Danville are good, too. You'll get probably 5 runs with VMSC or BRR, depending on turnout. NASA usually gives a ton of runs at their autocrosses, but they don't have them regularly. TSCC (Tidewater Sports Car Club) often has 2-day events at ACU4, which is a fantastic site in VA Beach, but there won't be any more ACU4 events until next year.

A bit late for this thread but early for 2017. And a very long way from where you are. CMC has a 3 day event at the former Loring AFB in Limestone, Maine. Friday August 4 is a test and tune day with a lot of seat time. Saturday and Sunday are the timed events on a very long and fast course. The venue is huge, and remote. Still, hotels and cabins near by, groceries and beer too. And you can camp on site if you want.
Don't go alone though, bring a friend and have them bring their car. Register yourself in your car for points, and in friends car for fun. They do the same. You both get to run as dual drivers in both cars in the same heat (can make your head spin) Doing so will get you a minimum of 12 runs per day, sometimes 16.
Course is much faster than a usual SCCA course and I spend a ton of time making sure it is safe. In 2015 I know I was approaching triple digits in one area, and lost it. Not even close to the edge. Only one car went aggie, tried to save it too many times instead of both feet in. 25 feet into the weeds. I slowed it down slightly last year. My GT4 was at the top of second for a lot of the course, many others were in 3rd for a long time. The event is capped. And for us in SE Mass, 8 hours away.

A friend of mine compiled a list of all the events within a few hours drive of Hampton Roads; most of these are within ~5 hours of you, though biased to the south. I'm signed up for the March 5th NASA chillycross at VMP (Petersburg) which is always a nice fun event.
