Amazingly my 2007 Turbo still has the original Bridgestone Potenza RE050A N0 tires on it (manufactured Summer 2006). I have started shopping around for new tires and thought the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S might be the best choice...but because my car is not a daily driver (only 8,000 miles), and I do not drive my car that often or in the wet, I figured the Sport Cup 2's might be a better choice other than cost. One thing that really struck me is how heavy the Bridgestones are compared to the Michelins (as per Tire Rack).

Potenza RE050A N0
Front: 24 lbs
Rear: 33 lbs

Sport Cup 2 N0
Front: 21 lbs
Rear: 28 lbs

I am pumped to try the new tires and drop all that rotational weight.

Now I just need to find a decent price on them!

The sport cups need heat in them (track time) to reach their full potential

If using on street runs.. go with the michelin 4s

Appreciate the advice. I just assumed the cup 2's would have been better for dry street runs. I do not need any wet performance at all.

I love my michelin pilot super sports. Cant wait to try the 4s. They truly are the best all around tire. Be careful on those old tires they are probably very hard and not very grippy or forgiving on turns. Any of the michelins will be transformational for you.

You can say that again...in sport mode right now with just a little throttle blip I am breaking grip and getting squirrely. Unnerving.

You'll be fine with the Cup2s. That's what I'd get. Cup 2s are a legit street tire. The original Cups were not as they were more of an R compound.

I have cup2s and the tire is a fantastic compromise for dry street/canyon/track...they also wear much better then expected. The new 4 is the only other tire that i would consider, so looking forward hearing the reviews.

Looking forward to enjoying every minute of driving that much more. And I don't get many minutes right now with 3 little kids...

...man the cost just hurts....

Cup2s are fine, as power hound stated, the old cups were real R cmpd and not friendly in wet weather at all.

Agreed. I've gone through two sets in the last 12 months - great tyres. Ran them through winter (which in NZ doesn't often get below single digit °C), just needed a bit of warmth before pushing at the track or on the road.

Why wouldn't you get N1's though?

If your tires didn't come in yet, i would've advised to be careful. Even if tires still have good tread life, the compound may be well beyond it's useful life. I've been on a few too many four wheel powerslides to know this all too well.
