Default 997.2 intercoolers rock!

I had my indy shop install 997.2 intercoolers and do88 intake pipes on my 997.1 this past week and was able to do a data logging run today. As background my car has EP1 exhaust and a custom 93 octane tune from Kevin at UMW. The difference in IAT's was eye opening. It was about 67 degrees out today and during the course of my runs my IAT's ranged from 69F to 90F. Most of the time it was at the lower end of the temp range. I compared it to a log I did last March when it was about 10 degrees warmer (high of 77F). The IAT's on that log ranged from a low of 90F to 135F. Unbelievable for the price compared to the higher price IC options out there.

Apart from the big difference in intake temps, the power gain was also very noticeable -- brutal acceleration. Even better, my car had very little knock retard whereas in the earlier log it did. Cooler temps!!!

One other note -- the intercoolers are the same for 997.2, 997.2 GT2 and 997.2 GT2RS; there is no model difference. Huge improvement over the 997.1 coolers.

Good job, they def. make a difference. In my various reviews of my logs its quite noticeable to see how much the IAT will affect the maximum load allowed.. even by only a few degrees C.

Awesome news, good job! Where's the best place to source 997.2 OEM ic? And the do88 intake pipes?

The ICs can be had from Sonnen for about $1300/pair. I bought my do88s from my tuner (UMW) but you can get them from do88 directly (I bought a bunch of do88 hoses for my classic Saab and the package arrived from Sweden 3 days after I ordered it..)
SamboTT probably sells them as well..

The ICs are $1386 + shipping from Sonnen. That is the cheapest I have seen. Most places are $1400~ $1500. There is a brand new set of 997.2 ICs in the classifieds that can be had cheaper

Thanks for posting, this might push me to finally install them.

Did you need to get your tune adjusted?

How much fabrication to get them to mount, just a little trimming?

This is why I still have my champion gen 1 units from my 997.1 sitting on the shelf instead of installed on my .2. Not sure it's going to be enough of an improvement to be worth it in the end.

No. Kevin could certainly adjust the tune to get more power with the lower IAT's but I want a more conservative tune (i.e. Little to no pulled timing) and he said the engine is strong as it is. Based upon the logs he estimates that my car is producing 530-540 hp to the wheels which is plenty for me. In standard mode it is like a stock car but in sport mode at WOT it scares me silly.

Yes just a little trimming. The 997.2 coolers are a little thicker and a little shorter. I looked into getting the 997.2 shrouds but all the parts add up to $1500 or so and there is a 3-5 week order time from Germany. The Rock's DIY about installing them is very good.

If you already have a .2, then you'd probably be detuning you car. Are the champions direct bolt on?

Pretty much. Couple of modifications need to be made but nothing huge. From my research I still think the champions are better than the .2 intercoolers but not by much. Have them sitting there still for when I really try to make more power. For now it's a flash only car so it wasn't really worth the effort to me yet.
