Default 2009 vs 2007-2008 premium

Just wondering on thought s of price premium to pay for a 2009 TT MT vs a 2007 or 2008 model year. After searching for 18 months ive found one I put a deposit on, but want to get the gospel from the community to make me feel comfortable with this being the "right" car.

Performance and option wise, there is no difference between an 09 and the 07 or 08 cars. Having said that, the 09 is the LAST year for the 997.1 turbo and the last year for both the Mezger engine and manual transmission. These will be profitable selling points if and when you decide to sell the car.

Mechanically, though there are no glaring differences, the 09 will have the most up to date improvements incorporated, as is the Porsche definition of evolution.

Beyond that, mileage is probably not a big difference since there are a ton of ultra low mileage turbos out there.

Just bought an 08, but had looked for a fitting 09 and could not find one in my search timeframe.

In addition to the things mentioned above, the 2009 cars have optional ventilated seats and optional centerlock wheels. They also have black plastic on the center stack instead of gray, and they have a PCM system that is one generation newer than the '07 and '08 cars. I don't think these things add much value. I think the relative rarity of the 2009 model plus the fact that it is a bit newer than the '07 and '08 cars add more value.

nothing better about the 09 except the PCM unit. I just replaced the PCM unit in my 07 with a state of the art one that is better than most of the OEM units available today. However vented seats would have been something that would sway me toward an 09 vs. 07. 09s are rare since the economy tanked in 08 and sales for high end cars plummetted.

Main points have been hit, but I do think the PCM upgrade is important because it modernizes the cabin tremendously, making it more upscale and cohesive. The interior of the 09 and .2 Turbos still looks fresh and new to me and I think it will generally age better as the years go on. I know it sounds silly to serious car guys who mostly care about performance stuff but you do spend a lot of time in the cabin, after all.

thanks for all the replies. Perusing this forum the past year had kinda brought ne to the realization that the 2007-2009 and especially the 2009 Mnaual Coupe is the "unicorn 997TT" that most of you (us) enthusiast love the most. I Found a 1 owner 2009 TT MT with 18k miles on it, that I am having inspected this week with deposit made on car. Hoping everything pan outs as it sounds like these may be close to the downside of depreciation curve.

Based on an old thread ago that got bumped recently, most 6MT coupes basically stopped depreciating a few years ago and have held steady, contingent on miles/condition of course. I'd think the 09s and .2 6MT coupes will hold value the best going forward, and that 1-owner with 18k miles sounds almost ideal.

Think vented only available with comfort and not sport adaptive seats.

Vented not available with either seat in 2008. I tried.

PCCB was the only thing worth having no matter what year. PCM for 2009 was a nice to have, but in the used market other factors much more important.

no PCCB on this one, but it does have vented/heated seats. I was indifferent on PCCB, talked to a couple dealers about replacement costs of those and they scared me off a bit!

I would not let the outdated PCM nor vented seats get in a way of a good 997.1TT. Sure the prestige of being the last of Mezger is attractive but driving dynamic and handling is the same. They are all good cars!

Go for that '09 if it turns out to be a good one.
However, don't expect to see a huge difference between 07/08 and 09.
The only real difference is the PCM3 and that is getting old too.
All 3 years and 997/2 manual will become 'collectors' with decent investment potential.

You can just about guess a persons position on this issue based on whether they own an 07-08 or an 09. The cars are virtually identical and it will always come down to how the car is equipped and it's condition. That said, I consider myself luck to have found an 09 during my search because of the upgraded PCM system. The differences are a much better sound system, much better touch screen NAV, bluetooth, satellite radio, and universal audio interface. I know some of these features can be added, but I've read the results are mixed and even if satisfactory you end up with a modifed car, OEM is always better, even if only from a perception standpoint. I consider these features important when I drive my car, love Sirus radio and not having to screw with my phone while driving. In fact these features mattered enough to me that my search wasn't between an 07-08 vs. 09, but between an 09 and a 997.2.

I personally wouldn't go back past a 2009 as I couldn't get past the look of the PCM 2 tiny phone buttons on the left side (not wanting to modify) which appeared to date the interior more than PCM 3.


It depends on each person's individual tastes on what they want or are willing to accept so there is probably not a universally agreed to answer here. It's your money so spend it as you feel comfortable to do so.

I was more curious about pricing. All things equal in mileage, options, etc...there seems to be a $5-10k bump for the "unicorn" 2009. Does that sound right?
