I was planning an oil change soon. I usually have it done at the shop, but i'll be doing it myself. Can it be done while flat on the ground? Or does the rear need to be lifted a bit?

I use a couple of cheap plastic ramps from walmart. Back the car up on them. My driveway has a slight slope making it even easier. I wouldn't try without some sort of lifting on the rear.

So the .2 needs no special tools?
Is the filter element the same as on my 996TT?
Thx

900 123 010 20 copper ring for the oil pan (Bolt torque,44 ft lbs)
900 123 118 30 crankcase (52 ft lbs torque)
Elite, is the filter tip O-ring necessary? My dealer told me it's not and he also looked up how many were sold and he said 2 in over 5 years. He also mentioned that the service guys never change it when they do an oil change...

Just paid $42 for oil n filter change at the Lexus dealer. And a wash and vac. Thought I was dreaming. Barely covered the drinks and snacks I consumed while I waited.

Ok, back to Porsche oil changes.

From what kevin has said, you should change this. it's an expensive little sucker and mine was still in ok shape, but I did it on my most recent change. Will likely swap it every 2nd oil change.

IIRC Kevin (of UMW) commented on the importance of this o-ring but I can't recall his exact words and don't have the time to search for the post. From where it resides it clearly helps seal the oil filter housing internally.

In the 996 Turbo factory manual this o-ring (and the large one too) is supposed to be replaced every oil change. I always replaced these o-rings when I did the oil changes the techs replace then when I have the Turbo serviced at the dealer.

If you do the oil change you should replace both o-rings and if you have it done insist they both be replaced. If you have to insist the o-rings be replaced though I think you are using the wrong place to have your Turbo serviced.

One thing I don't do on my Turbo is the oil change. I'll gladly pay $70 extra to not have to deal with the mess and annoyance. And i have a lift in my garage. Just me.

I do the lit'l o-ring every other change. I also go a litl lighter on the torque specs. Just began using Motul and am very happy 👍
