Default I'm curious if anyone here

has had the opportunity to take their (stock) 911 Turbo up to or near the top rated speed. I have a '09 997.1 Cab, and this thing is supposed to be able to reach 196 MPH.

I'm not sure, even if I had a long, empty straight with a good run off area, that I'd want to try hitting 196.

For one thing, what the heck is that fabric top doing at 196 MPH?

If anyone has done it, how does the car behave at that speed?

I wouldn't do it, even on a race track long straight with plenty run off. This what my 993 felt like at 164, front end very light:

Was going to try it with my 997.1 TT, but dealer had not balanced the wheels properly after new tires, and got vibration at 143.

All on an unidentified race track, of course.

I have to think the car is at least theoretically safe at the top speed, but I agree with you, I'd have to be in a pretty suicidal mood to try it. I'd be most worried about the tires. And the seats, which in my case are already conveniently cocoa brown.

As a noob, just watching tests, it seems like the fear factor skyrockets every 20mph or so. In tests, 120-130 looks pretty doable. But 150+ looks pretty freaking intense. Haha. A lot of stress on you and the car. But the difference between 150/160 and 194 seems astronomical. I'm not saying the car can't do it. But you probably really don't want to. I'd be curious to know what more experienced drivers have to say

I had my C4S up to 152, but I don't really think I've had the TTS past 120

Fastest I ever drove my turbo was 312 km/h, felt safe and stable.
Over the years I have taken it several times over 300 km/h and always felt the car could handle more.

Default 250plus many times at Mosport CTMP

with my 2007 TT on PCA DE days i usually get up to 250 to 255 kmh at the bridge at the end of the uphill back straight before braking hard. So once a lap about 40- 50 times a day on the track weekend. The stock brakes pads and rotors needed to be replaced after only 8 track days plus 10000 km road driving. Giro disks with Pagid yellows are lasting much better...
